THE LEAD

The University of Dallas (5-7) takes on Southwestern University (4-8) on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. Dallas has dropped two-straight, while the Black and Gold are looking to end a five-game skid.

UD is closing the campaign out on a season-long, seven-game road trip, and is 2-6 away from the confines in Irving, Texas. Dallas has gone 2-0 versus teams affiliated in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).

RECENT ACTION

Dallas dropped games on consecutive days at Johnson & Wales University and University of Colorado Denver last weekend. The Navy and White were topped 16-8 and 11-5 on the respective days.

Against JSW, the Crusaders matched the home team with a goal in the first quarter to tie things up. Seven unanswered in the second lifted the Wildcats to an 8-1 advantage. Junior Matthew Cyr (St. Louis, Mo.) scored a team-high, four goals, and was able to end the run.

A stretch of five netters in a row for Dallas nipped the margin to 9-7, but was not enough as the Wildcats pushed the gap with seven of the next eight goals counting for them.

Staying in Denver, Colorado, CU was able to pull away after a 4-2 scoreboard at the end of the first quarter. Squads would trade goals in the next stanza, but a four-goal fourth lifted the Lynx to an 11-5 final.  Cyr netted two for a team-high. Seniors Zachary Wellwerts (McHenry, Ill.) and Cody Wooten (Aurora, Colo.) and junior Alex Ziolkowski (Ann Arbor, Mich.) rounded out the scoring.

LEADERBOARD

Cyr continues to pace the team 36 goals and has totaled 14 in the past four games. Ranking second on the team is Ziolkowski with 18 goals and three assists. Cyr and Wooten are tied for a team-leading five assists apiece. Wooten rounds out the top three double-digit scorers with 13.

Wellwerts has totaled five goals on the year, but has been scorching of late, finding the back of the cage in four-straight contests.

Managing the net is junior goalkeeper Ryan Murphy (Yorba Linda, Calif.), who has 178 saves through 12 games. He has worked 727:59 minutes behind the crease.

SCOUTING THE PIRATES

Southwestern is 1-3 at home and has last played at the confines in Georgetown, Texas, on March 17. Last time SU took to the pitch was on March 29 in a 9-3 setback at Elmhurst College. After falling behind, 8-0, the Pirates scored three times in the final quarter to avoid the shutout.
