Women's Cross Country compiled Strong Effort for 3rd at Ozarks Invitational

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – After getting a break last weekend, the University of Dallas women's cross country team returned to the trails and ran a 5k at the University of the Ozarks Invitational. A combined effort by the top seven UD runners to have 28 points or lower among those places helped the team notched third overall with 88 points. The Crusaders were the fastest NCAA Division III School as Arkansas Tech (DII) and University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (DII) scored better with 21 and 62, respectively.

Clare Hernandez (Dade City, Fla.) earned the quickest time for Dallas with a season-best 21:55 for 15th place and 12 points - due to unattached racers above in the standings. Alexandra Ralles (Tucson, Ariz.) finished two places under with a 22:08 result. Emma Kate Callahan (Overland Park, Kan.) returned in her first race this distance on the year, and rounded out the top 20 spots and scored 17 points with a 22:40. There were 72 participating runners altogether.

Catherine Thelen (Raleigh, N.C.) contributed a season-best 23:02 for 20 points and 23rd overall. Alondra Hurtado (Wichita Falls, Texas), Mackenzie Tano (Wylie, Texas), and Caroline Schemel (Green Castle, Pa.) rounded out the final trio of Crusaders that counted seven team scores. Hurtado and Tano – who ran a personal record - finished back-to-back with times of 23:36 and 23:42 that were good for 25 and 26 points. Schemel scored a 24:10 for 28 points.

In addition to Thelen, Hannah Guth (Lake Charles, La.) and Ana Wilhelm (Kiowa, Kan.) hit season-best totals respectively at 24:47 and 25:30. It was a distance debut for Kimberly Keally (Anderson, Texas), and first race of the campaign for last season's top runner Angela Moore (Austin, Texas).

Kandace Young ran the fastest time 19:52 and Tori Kehler followed with a 20:06 from Cottey College. Aubre Gilreath earned the best time on the title winner with a 20:15 and took third overall.
