Women's Cross Country competes in First 6K of season at Saints Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas women's cross country team ran its first 6k this fall in the 2017 Saints Invitational on Saturday. Dallas scored 147 points for sixth place as a team. The Crusaders averaged a 28:32 time and the top five spots recorded 25, 29, 30, 31,and 32 points, respectively.

Alexandra Ralles (Tucson, Ariz.) scored a team-best 27:32.4 time for 26th place. Six Crusaders finished from spots 31-39 as the group did well staying together as a pack. Catherine Thelen (Raleigh, N.C.) led the sextet with a 28:19.9, and Caroline Schemel (Greencastle, Pa.) immediately followed with a 28:43 time clocked. Alondra Hurtado (Wichita Falls, Texas) and Lauren Zammit (Kingswood, Texas) were the next duo to finish consecutively with scores of 28:52.1 and 29:09.6, respectively.

Mackenzie Tano (Wylie, Texas) and Hannah Guth (Lake Charles, La.) rounded out the group of six times with both runners tallying their first career marks at this distance. Tano ran a 29:22.6 and Guth etched a 29:35.6.

Host school Our Lady of the Lake won the meet handily with a score of 26. The Saints earned the victory with four straight runners claiming places third through sixth. The fifth top time for the winners got eighth. McMurry University took second with 61 points and Texas Lutheran University completed the top three with 71 points. Southwestern University was the other Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) that competed and finished eight points in front of UD for fifth.

Sydney Tencate from Hardin-Simmons recorded the fastest individual time with a 23:13.4 mark. Ashley Rynard from Texas Lutheran University earned second with a 23:48.8 time. Our Lady of the Lake's Jazmine Garcia highlighted the first place team's individuals with a 23:58.1-clip.

UP NEXT

Dallas returns to the trails in two weeks on October 7th in the University of Ozarks Invitational. That meet will be another 6k for the girls, and will be consecutive years the Crusaders competed in that competition.
