Crusaders Finish 5th at SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Dallas women's track and field team wrapped up the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships held on the campus of Trinity University on Saturday. The Crusaders finished in fifth place with 17 points after the team collected another point in the Women's 4 x 400-meter relay. Several competitors set new personal records on the day.


- Lauren Zammit (Kingswood, Texas) competed in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.59 for 12th place. With this mark she set a new Personal Record (PR).

- Nicole Zurita (Wichita, Kan.) ran a season-best mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.95 for a 10th place finish.

- Katie Dieteman (Erie, Pa.) competed for Dallas in the 800-meter (3:09.19) and 1500-meter (6:19.69).    

- Mary Korth (McKinney, Texas) ran 2:51.43 (Season-best) in the 800-meter for 13th. Korth also had a time of 5:55.68 for 15th place in the 1500-meter.

- Brenda Mendoza (Dumas, Texas) collected 12th place in the 800-meter (2:43.15).

- Catherine Thelen (Raleigh, N.C.) set a new PR in the 800-meter 2:54.41 (PR) for 14th place. Thelen also set a new PR in the1500-meter (6:04.34).

- Clare Hernandez (Dade City, Fla.) ran a season-best 5:31.15 in the 1500-meter race.

- Anna Wilgenbusch (St. Paul, Minn.) finished in ninth in the 1500-meter (5:16.56).

- Athena Garnica (Phoenix, Ariz.) threw 8.40 meters (PR) in shot put for 13th place. Garnica also competed in discus for the Crusaders with a mark of 30.70 meters (11th place).  

- The Women's 4 x 400-meter relay led by Zammit, Mendoza, Brunk, Wilgenbusch came in 6th place after a season-best result of 4:34.42.  

Trinity University took home the crown with a team score of 233 points. Texas Lutheran University finished second (168 points), while Colorado College came in third overall with 122 points. UD finished ahead of Schreiner University and Johnson & Wales University (CO).
