Cosgrove lifts Women's Soccer in Second Shutout of Year at Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team got a goal from freshman Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.), and an excellent defensive performance to claim its second shutout of the year in a 1-0 result on Sunday. Dallas (3-10-1, 2-5-1 SCAC) would top Schreiner University (7-4-2, 4-2-1 SCAC) for its first conference road win and split the season series 1-all. The Lady Crusaders also have prevailed in both league contests via shutouts.

Cosgrove netted her team-leading third goal of the season at the 17:59 minute mark to break a scoreless match. It also improves a personal best total of goals and is the first game-winner of her rookie campaign. Sophomore Alexa Acquista (Las Vegas, Nev.) was credited with her second assist of the year. The other came a little over a week ago when UD blanked Centenary College at Crusader Field.

Despite being outshot seven to three by the Mountaineers, the road squad was consistent about getting shots on frame. Cosgrove's goal was the lone shot by Dallas, and both of sophomores' Alice Nelson (Jackson, Tenn.) and Lauren Hood (Bedford, Texas) attempts were on goal. Nelson has attempted a shot in each of the past five matches.

It was the defense that stood up for the UD team on Sunday however. Sophomore Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) made three saves against all three shots faced in a complete game shutout – her second of the fall. Naccari has been part of seven times in her career, including six for victories.

Schreiner was led offensively by Lindsey Fitz with two shot attempts. Kelcie Nesbitt, Alexis Overdiek, and Cailee Morgan kicked shots on goal in the setback for SU. Taylor Roberson had the one blemish and nabbed two saves in the difficult one-goal contest.
