Women's Soccer blanks Centenary on Friday for First SCAC Win

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team (2-9, 1-4 SCAC) broke a scoreless game in the 58th minute of the second half, and finished with its highest total of goals within conference play to win 3-0 on Friday. Dallas claimed its first shutout of the campaign, defeating Centenary College (1-9, 0-6 SCAC) in the squad's first league victory. The Lady Crusaders also snapped a seven-game skid with its first home triumph too.

It was mostly Dallas ball throughout the match, with the team holding a 13-5 edge in shots and 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. At the break, the score reflected 0-all, but UD managed to have seven shots and six corners in that frame.

Sophomore Alice Nelson (Jackson, Tenn.) kicked the go-ahead goal that was all Dallas needed at the 57:49 minute mark of the contest. Nelson pounded the ball from the top of the penalty box and into the far right side of the net. Sophomore Alexa Acquista (Las Vegas, Nev.) gave the pass touch back to Nelson for the assist.

Less than ten minutes later, the Navy and White struck fast as freshman Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) took a pass from junior Cascade Mayer (Kapaa, Hawaii) and netted the second goal of the game on the far right side. The duo connected at the 66:14 mark, and doubled UD's advantage.

Freshman Samantha Deitschel (San Antonio, Texas) lifted the Lady Crusaders to its second highest scoring match of the season on a header from sophomore Kayla Glenn (Chandler, Ariz.). Glenn utilized her lone corner kick of the match and the forward headed the ball into the upper middle of the net.

All three Dallas scorers increased their total amount of goals to two on the season.

Deitschel paced all participants in the game with four shots and placed half of them on target. UD mustered a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Nelson contributed three shots and Cosgrove added a multi-shot game with two. Sophomores Sydney Stirling (McLean, Va.) and Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas) also posted shots on goal in their attempts of the afternoon.

Sophomore Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) handled 90 minutes of her first shutout win of the year. She faced three shots and notched all of them for saves.

Centenary was led offensively by Madeline Stokes who kicked two shots and both on frame. Maddy Brown also gave the other shot on goal for the Ladies. Liz Knight (0-1) suffered the loss in 90 minutes between the posts. Knight nabbed three saves.

Neither team had a foul charged in the first half, and the first would be a Centenary foul around the 58th minute of the second. The Maroon and White had five whistled compared to four on the home team.
