Pirates pull away from UD Women's Lacrosse on Saturday after Trading First 6 Goals

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team fell 25-5 on Saturday late afternoon to Southwestern University. The Crusaders exchanged goals with their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) counterpart in less than four minutes before an 11-goal streak propelled Southwestern to a double-digit lead at halftime.

Jillie Klumbach put the Pirates (3-1) up at 29:12 in the first half. Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas), who finished with a team-high three goals, answered the first two Pirate goals to keep things knotted. Klumbach put the guests up 3-2 and then Ann Rushing (Brighton, Mich.) equaled the scoreboard again at three with 26:43 remaining. Raven Garcia on an assist from Grace Maynard surged Southwestern on its big run that would wind up leading to a 16-4 first half difference.

The Crusaders (0-3) were outscored by eight in the second frame, with Jordyn Buell (Murrieta, Calif.) scoring her first collegiate goal with just under 21 minutes left in the contest.

Pauletti scored in the team's third game this season and logged her second hat trick at home on this home stretch. Rushing added her third collegiate goal overall.

Dallas was outshot 46-11 in the game. The trio of scorers for the Crusaders attempted all the shot attempts. A trio of freshmen in Rushing, Anne Davis (Ogden, Utah), and Gabby Dixon (San Diego, Calif.) combined for five caused turnovers. Dixon also had a team-high four ground balls. Lizz Winkler (St. Charles, Ill.) garnered a season-high 11 saves.

The Pirates dominated on the draw controls (23-9), ground balls (21-15), and were 26-30 on clears. SU made five free position shots in the goal out of six tries.

Deanna Hames led the Pirates' attack with six goals thanks to eight shots and seven on cage. Haley Hurt added four goals, while Klumbach and Natasha Perez-Kruse registered the remaining hat tricks with three. Emma Pertuit won 12 draw controls and tied UD's Dixon with a game-high four ground balls. Sofia Valdespino and Tessa Lewis had one save in their halves they worked in goal.

Dallas is off for about a week and then go to Hendrix College for a neutral site match with Culver-Stockton College (Mo.). Start time still to be determined.
