Four Named to All-SCAC Women's Lacrosse Team; Cosgrove and Pedrozo Garner 1st Team Awards
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference (SCAC) released the 2019 All-Conference women's lacrosse team on Tuesday. Four members of the University of Dallas were tabbed for honors, including a pair on the first team and honorable mention.
Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Ella Pedrozo (Austin, Texas) highlighted the postseason accolades for the Crusaders with All-SCAC First Team selections. Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) and Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas) garnered honorable mention selections.
Cosgrove was one-of-four midfielders from the conference to make first team. A senior, three-year letterwinner, and 2019 team-voted MVP, Cosgrove continued her development from just learning how to play lacrosse as a dual-sport athlete with women's soccer her sophomore year to being a leader both on and off the field this past spring. Cosgrove won SCAC Defensive Player of the Week the final week of the regular season, as she led the team in caused turnovers (21) and a record-breaking 54 ground balls. Cosgrove is third all-time in ground balls with 101. She added five goals and four assists for nine points, which were all personal-bests.
Pedrozo made the first team as one-of-five defenders. Like Cosgrove, she joined the team as a dual-sport athlete although it was in 2018 where she lettered. This spring, Pedrozo put together an improved campaign with career-bests in ground balls (35), caused turnovers (16), goals (6), and points (8). Her numbers in ground balls and caused turnovers checked her in second on the team behind Cosgrove. Pedrozo claimed her only hat trick of her career in a crucial 15-12 victory at Johnson & Wales University (CO) to lock up the number three seed in the SCAC Tournament.
Leite was the offensive leader all four seasons of her career for the Crusaders. The attacker achieved the single-season record for goals with 59. She was a point shy of notching that mark for points with 64. Leite finished her career atop the program in assists with 24. Her 183 points and 159 goals rank second all-time. Leite also finished within the top five in the program for draw controls (5th - 66) and caused turnovers (T-3rd – 37). Leite did win the team's first-ever SCAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week in the first week of the spring for conference.
Pauletti notched the other honorable mention for Dallas to round out the quartet of all-conference selections in UD's first year in the SCAC. Another top player for the team on offense, the sophomore ranked third in goals with 25. Pauletti scored in 11 matches, including the last six to reach the personal-best. She added four hat tricks, which included a career-high five goals that was the leading amount for the team in a three-goal win over Johnson & Wales University. Pauletti added 18 ground balls.
