Women's Lacrosse topped at Midland
FREMONT, Neb. – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team was edged 19-8 at Midland University on Sunday afternoon. Erika Keever (Fort Worth, Texas) and Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas) registered hat tricks for six of the team's goals.
The Warriors (4-5) broke through at 27:33 on a goal by Emma Guerra. A little under a minute later, Megan Collins doubled the lead, but then the Dallas (0-9) defense held for six minutes keeping the margin close.
A pair of goals by Riley Yanek extended the advantage to 4-0, before Pauletti scored on a free position shot at 18:31. The dual-sport volleyball player put the ball in the back of the cage after Masey Jay had answered to keep the deficit at three goals (5-2).
Goals were exchanged, as Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) and Camryn Dougherty (Drayden, Md.) etched their only goals to maintain the same gap.
Midland surged from its 7-4 lead with the next eight goals in the last 14 minutes to carry a 15-4 score at the break. Yanek sparked the surge as her third goal of the half came on a helper from Emma Guerra. A free position shot rang true just below a minute by Yanek, and then Guerra netted the double-digit goal with around seven minutes left.
Both teams scored four times in the last 30 minutes. Pauletti secured her first ever hat trick at 25:21, Keever produced the last trio of Dallas goals. Pauletti placed all four shots in her season-best scoring performance on cage. Leite led the team with six shot attempts, and Keever followed with five.
Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) picked up five groundballs, while Keever won six draw controls. Jordyn Buell (Murrieta, Calif.) nabbed 11 saves in her first collegiate start at goalkeeper.
Yanek poured seven goals to lead all players in the match. Jay and Collins each fired four successful goals. Guerra and Collins led with three assists apiece. The duo combined for all 18 draw controls for Midland, with Guerra boasting 12.
Tessa Singleton made five saves against 13 shots faced in a complete 60 minutes.
