Diaz Selected to have Jersey on Display in Women's Basketball Hall of Fame "Ring of Honor"

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Dallas women's basketball forward Vanessa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas) will have her Crusaders jersey on display in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame "Ring of Honor" in recognition of her outstanding play for the 2018-19 season.

The Ring of Honor provides a colorful backdrop to the Hall of Fame's many archives and is also the Hall's way of recognizing some young basketball players for their achievements in the sport.

"In doing so, we are fulfilling our mission to "honor the past, celebrate the present and promote the future" of women's basketball," stated in a letter by Director of Basketball Operations & Technology Josh Sullivan. He adds, "Thanks in advance for your willingness to contribute to the Ring of Honor and allow us to continue this great tradition."

Currently there are over 100 jerseys hanging in the Ring of Honor, including high school and college All-Americans from the 2016-17 season. This tradition has existed since the Hall of Fame opened in 1999, which puts Diaz in an elite group and part of history now too.

Diaz led the 2018-19 Crusaders with 296 points (12.9 ppg) and 189 rebounds (8.2 reb/g) as part of a career season. The sophomore logged a team-most 785 minutes (34.1 per contest), collected seven double-doubles in scoring and boards, and was ranked third in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) for rebounds-per-game.

Diaz claimed United States Collegiate Athletics Association (USCAA) All-American Second Team and All-SCAC Honorable Mention this past winter.
