Southwestern University Blows Past Crusaders on Saturday
GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team suffered a 65-22 loss to Southwestern University on Saturday. The Pirates (7-10, 4-2 SCAC) outscored the Crusaders 24-2 in the first quarter and never looked back. SU outbattled Dallas on the boards 50-25 and forced UD to cough the ball up 22 times. Dallas (1-15, 1-7 SCAC) shot well from the free throw line shooting 12-18 (66.7 percent) but were unable to find any traction from the field in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) contest.
The Pirates started out hot grabbing a 20-0 lead. Gracie Williams (Midwest City, Okla.) broke that long stride by converting both of her free-throws with fifty seconds remaining. SU added two more buckets before the end of the first period to secure a 24-2 difference after one. Cecily Woolfolk led the Pirates with 10 points in that period.
Through most of the second frame, Dallas added only four points all coming from the charity stripe. At the 00:47 mark Gracie Williams grabbed the first points outside of the free-throw line for UD with a made three-pointer. SU found a 31-9 lead at halftime.
Vanessa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas) scored a layup and added a free-throw with just three minutes into the third frame (35-12), but SU came up with another big run. The Pirates saw a 48-12 lead at the 1:34 mark. Diaz added four more from the charity stripe with time running down. SU eventually took a 52- 16 lead into the final frame. Diaz scored all seven points for UD in that quarter.
Both teams traded points back-and-forth in the final frame. SU eventually ended the fourth period on a 6-0 run with two treys by Taylor Carney to take the conference victory.
Woolfork led all scorers with 13 points. Zhazze Brown contributed 12 points, while Carney added nine to lead the Pirates. Carraway helped the Pirates on the boards as she led the team with 12 rebounds. SU shot 27-75 (36 percent) from the field along with a 5-18 (27.8 percent) outing from behind the arc. The Pirates gained 23 points off of UD turnovers, including 18 second chance points. SU also had a nice outing from its bench with 29 points
Williams led UD with 11 points. Diaz finished with eight points and nine rebounds. Alex Parkey (Henrietta, Texas) came down with eight boards.

Dallas will be back at home to take on Colorado College and Johnson & Wales University (CO) next Friday (1/25) and Saturday (1/26).
