DeCoud named to 1st Team All-SCAC; Onyenso Honorable Mention
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced the 2017-18 All-SCAC Women's Basketball teams on Saturday evening. Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) claimed 1st Team All-Conference for the University of Dallas. The senior has earned all-conference honors all four seasons in her career, but this is her first time to be among the top listed. Classmate Helen Onyenso received votes for Honorable Mention. It is her first all-conference accolade.
DeCoud reached the pinnacle of her All-SCAC Team honors thanks to boasting career numbers in several categories to lead the Crusaders and leave her near the top of several all-time records. DeCoud logged season personal-bests in points (431), assists (50), and steals (50). She averaged 17.2 points (3rd), 9.2 rebounds (2nd), and shot 46.9 (4th) percent from the field to rank in the top-five in the league through the end of the regular season.
DeCoud became the 14th player in program history to reach above 1,000 career points on December 2nd versus Johnson & Wales University (CO). She was also the 8th player to surpass 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in her career. Eventually, the forward shattered the career blocks record and ended with 134 for the new mark. DeCoud finished 2nd in total field goals (544), 2nd in rebounds (844), and 5th in points (1,337).
DeCoud earned SCAC Player of the Week during week 12.
Onyenso was tabbed on Honorable Mention Team. Like DeCoud, this four-year letterwinner notched career-highs in several categories her final season. This included ranking second on the squad with 9.8 points-per-game and 7.6 rebounds a contest. Her rebounding average tied third in the SCAC during the regular season.
She secured four double-doubles and ended up producing personal-highs on the campaign with 191 rebounds and 48 steals. The forward hustled for nearly the same amount of offensive and defensive rebounds with 93 and 98, respectively. On Senior Day, she became the 11th player in the program to eclipse 500 career boards with that exact number. Her final total was 509.
Coaches voted for 15 places for All-SCAC with 15 points awarded for first-place votes, 14 points for second-place votes, 13 points for third-place votes, etc., down to one point for a 15th-place vote. All players not elected to the First, Second or Third Team, but who received at least one vote, were named Honorable Mention. Coaches could not vote for their own players.
Dallas posted a 9-16 overall record and went 3-11 in conference play after the first season completed by head coach Lacey Burns.
