OPENING TIP

The University of Dallas women's basketball team starts 2018 with a three-game road trip. On January 5th, the Crusaders pick up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play at defending regular season and tournament championships, Trinity University. Tip-off is slated for around 7:30 p.m. after the men's tilt. Dallas travels the next day over to Schreiner University for a 6 p.m. matchup.

Dallas (5-6, 0-1 SCAC) is coming off a 75-62 setback to Sul Ross State University. Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) poured in 31 points for a career-high, which included 17 of the team's 19 in the third quarter. However, it was not enough as the Crusaders ended December with a 2-4 record.

UD NOTABLES

- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) ranks in the top-5 for three categories in the conference. This includes 8.8 rebounds-per-game (T-1st), 16.7 points-per-game (3rd), and 46 field goal percentage (4th).

- Onyenso's most recent performance increased her scoring average to a 12.3-clip. Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas) rounds out the top-three scorers for UD with 10.5 points-per-game (ppg).

- Caraway leads her squad with 22 made three-pointers. DeCoud (42) and Onyenso (41) have combined for 83 of the team's 161 successful free throws.

- Dallas is atop the conference for offensive rebounds with 175 (15.9).

- UD checks in second in the conference for total assists with 162 (14.7). Panda Green (Farmersville, Texas) leads the individuals with 54, while Caraway has dished 30.

- The Crusaders are 4-36 against Trinity and 3-12 versus Schreiner University.

- Last season, UD dropped both decisions to the Tigers and Mountaineers.

- In Kerrville, the Crusaders fell on a basket in the final seconds to lift Schreiner up 51-50. DeCoud scored 20 points in that contest.

OPPONENT NOTABLES

(Trinity University)

- The Tigers are 7-2 on the season and have the highest overall winning percentage in the SCAC. Friday's matchup with Dallas is their conference opener. 

- Trinity is 4-1 at home and has won the last two games. Last weekend, TU downed North Central (Ill.) and Concordia University in the UTD Classic.

- The defending conference champions were selected to repeat in the coaches' preseason poll.

- Micah Weaver and Abby Holland hold the top two spots in the conference for scoring with 18.6 and 16.8 ppg, respectively. The team's top scoring tandem are the only Tigers averaging double figures.

- Holland and Weaver rank second and third in league for field goal percentage with respective clips of 49.2 and 48.4.

- Holland and Weaver check in at the top of the leader board for rebounds with 49 and 45. Weaver has dished a team-high 29 assists, while Jordan Rudd follows with 23.

(Schreiner University)

- The Mountaineers enter the weekend 2-9 on the season. They have dropped their past six games.

- On Friday Schreiner starts conference play with Colorado College.

- In the preseason poll, Schreiner was selected tied for fifth. In 2016-17, the Mountaineers posted an 11-16 overall mark and 8-6 record in the SCAC.

- Jordyn Villa paces the offense with 111 points and is the only player averaging double-digits with 10.1 points. Kendall Dyal has contributed 92 (8.4 ppg).

- Villa is also tops on the team in rebounds with 72. Kendra Brown has garnered 67 boards.

- Villa also is the leader in assists (30) and steals (18).

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Dallas wraps up the away trip on Jan. 10th with a non-conference tilt at Southwestern Adventist University. Then the Crusaders are back at the Maher Center for a quartet of SCAC matchups. The homestand begins Jan. 12th with Centenary College at 7:30 p.m. Two days later, Austin College visits for a 2 p.m. tip.
