Women's Basketball drops first contest of the season at Hendrix Tuesday
CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Dallas women's basketball team dropped a 76-48 road decision at Hendrix College on Tuesday evening. That moved the Crusaders to 1-1 on the young season. Being outscored 17-3 in the second quarter summarized a difficult shooting performance for UD, who went 25 percent overall and 3-for-15 from behind the arc. The Warriors only had two more treys in 22 attempts, but did connect for 43.1 percent. Each squad made 21 free throws.
Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas) hit a trifecta to put Dallas up 3-2 about two and a half minutes into the opening quarter. After a field goal by Heather Prowse, Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) sank a three-pointer of her own to make it 6-4 with seven minutes before the break. Near a minute later Leah Boehl had the first trey the Warriors scored to change the lead back to the home side.
DeCoud had a couple free throws on two different trips to the line that knotted the contest again. The final time was 12-12 with 3:23 remaining and the deadlock stayed until a jump shot was notched by Boehl for Hendrix with 2:08. HC tallied the final seven points in that span to go up 19-12.
The big second quarter extended the advantage for Hendrix to 36-15 going into halftime.
The Crusaders allowed 40 points in the second half with 20 per half, but did score the same total as their foe in the final 10-minute quarter. It was too insurmountable of a deficit for UD to reduce.
DeCoud scored 17 points for the Crusaders, while Jules Oliveti (Southlake, Texas) contributed 12 from the bench. Francesca Weisbruch (Temple, Texas) and Jackie Landry (Anaheim, Calif.) tied team-highs in rebounds with six apiece.
The Warriors posted a 48-30 edge on rebounds and outscored UD 23-9 on points off miscues. Heather Prowse recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards. Boehl contributed 12 points, while Madison Martin and Vinessa Daniel both added 10. Hendrix improved to 3-1 overall.
