Softball drops Pair of Non-Conference Games to the Lions on Friday
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team fell in a doubleheader to NAIA Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Friday night. The Crusaders offense was limited to seven hits combined in the series, which was not enough to keep up with their opponent. The weather started out cool, and as the night progressed got cooler and occasional rainfall began in the middle of the second contest. Both games were completed in seven with no delays.
(Game 1)

The Lions scored the first six runs to take a commanding lead through four innings. A two-run first headlined by RBI singles by Kayla Milstead and Casey Waterman got the visitors on top early. UD limited damage by getting out of a bases-loaded jam with only one out. Lauren Galvan (Bryan, Texas) struck out Kaylee Fowler – her lone one of the game - and Arras Luna popped up back to her.
In the third inning, SAGU pushed the edge to five runs. Brittany Livingston doubled to right center to drive in Morgan Valentino and Waterman. Bailey Balloun beat out an infield single.
A run in the fourth stretched the lead to six, but the Crusaders cut the deficit in half with their best offensive frame of the night in the home fifth. Alicia Enciso (Corona, Calif.) singled to left with one out. Galvan was able to reach and a throwing error allowed the two runners into scoring position. After Shannon Sheeley (Cedar Hill, Texas) walked, Mackenzie Tano (Wylie, Texas) ripped a triple to deep right center that cleared the bases.
Dallas only had one baserunner beyond that juncture. Prior to the fifth, Caitlyn Stevenson (Henderson, Nev.) was the only other baserunner to advance to third. She got there in the third inning on a steal and passed ball.
The Crusaders were outhit 15-4. Stevenson, Tano, Gabbie Underwood (La Verne, Calif.), and Enciso had the base knocks for the home team. Galvan pitched a complete game. She allowed seven runs (6 earned) and walked three.
Five batters for the Lions had two-hit games including: Rosie Guadarrama, Kayla Milstead, Kristin Stringer, Casey Waterman, and Rienha Cano. Rachel Ray threw seven innings. She yielded three runs on four hits, while walking one and striking out six.
(Game 2)

Dallas jumped out to a lead in the first inning thanks to an error by the Lions. Mel Savala (Bryan, Texas) reached on an infield single and stole second. A fielding error at second allowed Savala to scamper all the way around home to the team's lone run of the night.
In the next inning, the opposition countered with four runs to go in front the remainder of the way. An error by the Crusaders allowed three unearned runs. Arras Luna had an RBI single, a wild pitch with the bases loaded scored Valentino, and a two-out single up the middle by Guadarrama plated the final two runs that frame.
The Crusaders were held for two hits the last six innings, with only three base runners. In the fifth, Sheeley earned a two-out walk. Tano singled to right but the inning ended with Sheeley out stretching for third.
The Lions tallied three runs in the sixth, and UD went down in order the last six batters.
SAGU was led by Luna with a perfect night at the plate (3-3), a double, two RBI, and two runs scored. Guadarrama also drove in two and had two hits. Waterman was the other player with multiple hits (2-4). Overall, the Lions garnered nine base knocks.
Maggie Watts (Arcadia, La.) took the ball in game two. Through six innings, she allowed seven runs (3 earned) on nine hits to go with a walk and two strikeouts. Emily Martin (San Jose, Calif.) pitched a perfect seventh.
Waterman did damage both at the plate and in the circle. She threw a complete game, while not allowing an earned run on three hits. She struck out four.
