FIRST PITCH

The University of Dallas softball team hosts Hendrix College on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. The Crusaders are looking to bounce back after two setbacks last Saturday in the season openers to Ottawa University.

Dallas is in the midst of a season-long, 10-game homestand. Dating back to March 2015, the Crusaders are 19-11 at home. The squad concludes the month of February at the friendly confines with a pair of home series in three days on the 26th and 28th.


UD NOTES

- Jade Miller (Plano, Texas) made her Dallas debut with a bang, smacking the first home run of the campaign in her first at bat. Miller finished the twinbill with three hits, a double, and two runs scored.

- Allie Driskill (Houston, Texas) started her collegiate career with three hits, an RBI, and two runs scored.

- The leaders in hits each swiped a pair of stolen bases.

- Dallas as a team was perfect going 6-for-6 in the two contests on the base paths.

- In both games, the Crusaders recorded eight hits.

- Melanie Savala (Bryan, Texas) and Allison Kotlar (Edna, Texas) are the other Crusaders with multiple hits on the year with two apiece.

- Baileigh Perkins (Orange, Texas) and Lety Morales (Fontana, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs apiece.

HENDRIX COLLEGE NOTES

The Warriors start the new campaign on Saturday against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent, Austin College. Hendrix will then continue a six-game road trip through Irving and then conclude two weeks later at Birmingham-Southern.

Hendrix went 21-18 last year, including an 8-10 mark in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). The Warriors were 6-9 in true away games.

Karli Sewell is the top hitter returning from last season. She batted .365 and was 2nd on that squad in hits (38). Sewell was tops on the team in doubles (11) and is the returning leader in runs batted in (28). She also contributed two doubles and homers. Bryanna Carlisle is another player to watch as she batted .326 a year ago with 28 hits. She was perfect in stolen bases with nine and leads the returners in runs scored with 23. Sydney Ozersky hit .310 with 18 hits, three doubles, and 11 RBI in 27 appearances (20 starts). Victory Hughes was the speed demon on the team going 14-for-17 in steals. She collected 35 hits while scoring 22 runs (2nd among returners) and drove in 10.

Emily Stockalper logged 130 innings last season while posting a 10-8 record to go with a 2.69 earned run average.

Dallas is 4-25 in the all-time series against the Warriors. In the season openers last year, the Crusaders split dropping an extra inning 2-1 final. The 6-3 triumph in the second game ended a 25-game slide dating back to the last win on March 25, 2003. UD won the first three head-to-head matchups when the program started in 2002.

Katie Lee (Houston, Texas) went final line in her start was 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO. Stockalper countered her and was a bit better with one earned run allowed and five strikeouts. Stephanie Cervantes (Temecula, Calif.) posted an RBI and one-of-two hits for UD.

In the victory, Savala was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kotlar contributed a 2-for-3 with an RBI.
