Kilmer takes 7th at Ozarks; 7 Crusaders PR for Men's Cross Country

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – After getting a break last weekend, the University of Dallas men's cross country team returned to the trails and ran its second consecutive 8k of the season at University of the Ozarks Invitational. Joseph Kilmer (Rockville, Md.) ran the best time for the Crusaders and earned seventh place with a time of 28:03. His time counted six points towards the team due to one of the unattached runners. Dallas finished fourth place out of six schools with 78 points.

Kilmer was part of a group of seven Crusaders to set a personal record (PR) on the morning for the 8k distance. Besides Kilmer, UD had: Elijah Depew (Grove City, Pa.), Joseph Boyle (St. Paul, Minn.), Andrew Maal (Pueblo West, Colo.), Maximilian Wilson (Houston, Texas), Gabe Vazquez (Clive, Iowa), and Peter Hedlesky (Florissant, Mo.) form the septet.

Depew and Boyle contributed strong results within two seconds of each other with 29:07 and 29:09 for 14th and 15th place, respectively. Due to another unattached racer above, the duo counted 12 and 13 points directed into the final tally. Boyle clipped a minute off his 8k debut at Saints Invitational at the end of September. Maal broke his 8k PR in consecutive races, and shaved about 15 seconds off for a 30:38.

Wilson, Vazquez, and Hedlesky rounded out the group of PRs with 31:56 and two 34:28 marks. Peter Dinh (Grand Prairie, Texas) made his 8k debut for the Crusaders.

NCAA Division II University of Arkansas-Fort Smith won the meet with a 24. Behind that was host school Ozarks with a 54. Williams Baptist was the other school to place in front of UD with a 69. Out of 55 participants, Michael Harris of Ozarks garnered the top time with a 26:45. Six seconds after was Brooks Hedstrom from UAFS. His teammate Will Phillips completed the top three with a 27:19. Four straight runners from the Lions slotted in places 2-5 for countable times in points before Dallas' Kilmer ended the stretch with his team-leading time for the fourth time in all competitions this fall.

Dallas hosts its 5k on the campus next Saturday, October 14th. The girl's race will start at 9 a.m., while the men's race follows at 9:45 a.m.
