Haugland Scores Game-Winner in 2 OT

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team slipped past Austin College 1-0 in double overtime. Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) scored the game-winner in the 105th minute of play after he was fed a nice ball by Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) to give Dallas the victory. UD (3-6-1, 1-1-1 SCAC) was outshot 18-15 in the contest, but was able to snag its first conference victory on the season.

After the 'Roos took the first shot of the game, Dallas came out firing four shots making the AC keeper make three saves early. The 'Roos came back the other end and found some offensive attack, but the UD defense shut down everything that was fired its way. Dallas and Austin went into the halftime break tied 0-0 after UD led 9-5 in shots. The second half belonged to AC most of the period. The 'Roos outshot the Crusaders 12-3 in that half, but only two of those AC shots were on goal as Caleb Strange (Argyle, Texas) secured the clean sheet heading into overtime.

UD had two opportunities in the first overtime period, but shots by Haughland and Jose Martinez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) missed the mark. Neither team was able to find the back of the net through 100 minutes of play. In 2 OT, the two teams swapped sides of the field and no stats occurred three minutes in. After a turnover on the Austin side of the field, Reynolds dribbled the ball and passed it up ahead to Haugland. Haugland then took the ball and struck it past the goalie to send the Crusaders home with the victory.

Ahmet Ramovic led Austin with six shots on the night placing two on frame. Logan Newman followed that up with three shots of his own. Juan Rodriguez notched five saves playing the whole game in goal for AC.

Haugland scored his sixth goal on the season for the game-winner, while Reynolds picked up his third assist on the year. Haugland led Dallas with four shot attempts, as Reynolds added three. Strange made two saves on the night as most of the AC opportunities went wide of the frame.

Both teams had one corner kick on the evening.
