IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team opened up the 2018 season with a 2-0 victory at home against Sul Ross State University on Friday afternoon. The debut on the new soccer field was a success, as the Crusaders (1-0) have won six of the past seven season openers. They also have now won three straight home openers in as many years. Sean Taylor (Austin, Texas) and Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) both scored for the Crusaders to provide the offense.

Taylor found the back of the net off a corner kick from the right side by Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) for his first career goal in the 27th minute. Dallas totaled 11 shots in the first half.

Sul Ross State University (0-1) had a few early chances totaling six shots, one on goal in the first half.

Ciancone added to the lead in the 52nd minute by striking the ball from the top of the box after an assist from Reynolds for his first goal of the year. Reynolds who led the team in assists last season, produced a pair in the opener.

The game became chippy as seven cards were handed out, four to the Crusaders and three to the Lobos. Sul Ross was given the lone red card. The two teams also totaled 28 fouls in the contest.

The Crusaders attempted 26 shots, 10 of them on goal in the game. Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas) led the team with five total shots. Three of Ogueri's shots in the 81st minute came in one series as Frank Rodriguez was able to save all three of his attempts. Dallas earned five corner kicks in the match with two in the first half and three in the second half. Sean Carlin (Puyallup, Wash.) earned his first win of the season by making one save in goal.

Luis Gonzalez led the Lobos with two shots, one on goal. Frank Rodriguez was credited with the loss playing in goal, having saved eight of ten shots faced. Sul Ross earned three corner kicks and totaled seven shots in the contest.
