Crusaders fall to Trine University on Wednesday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team fell 24-7 on Wednesday afternoon to Trine University. The Thunder stormed ahead with 14 first-half goals that included nine by the first break.

Dallas (2-4) got on the board early in the third quarter by Austin Gibbons (St. Charles, Ill.) with Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) giving the assist.

Tucker Jameson (Mechanicsville, Md.) kept his hat trick streak alive at four games with his entire trio coming in the final 15 minutes. Chasen Reynolds (Fallbrook, Calif.), Jake Frederick (Coppell, Texas), and Joshua McClendon (Redondo Beach, Calif.) also registered a goal.

Cole Griffin (Lucas, Texas) surpassed 20 saves for the second game in a row as he collected 22 in 60 minutes.

Trine (2-0) logged 65 shots with 46 placed on cage. 13 different players tallied at least one goal, with Justin Gearig (4), Austin Lindell (3), and Neil Orr (3) leading the group with hat tricks. Also producing multiple goals were Eric Peal, Jarod Schepp, Matt Zanichelli, and Tyler Corless.

A quartet of players combined for 12 of the team's 15 assists with Conner Putman dishing a game-high four. Brennan Battle and Gearig both contributed three helpers.

Max Harris was perfect on the faceoffs (13-13), while Garrett Nichols won 14-of-17 attempts. Three goalkeepers saw time between the pipes. Joseph Steigmeyer saved both shots he faced in his start. Anthony Marasco had three saves against five shots over 30 minutes, but did not allow a goal to keep a combined shutout through 30 minutes.
