Men's Lacrosse extends Streak to 3 with Huge Win on Wednesday

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-4 victory on a rainy Wednesday afternoon over Johnson & Wales University (CO). The Crusaders tied their longest all-time winning streak with their third straight win since dropping the season opener. UD's 3-1 start is the best in the program, with the other three-game win streak having occurred in 2011 (March 27th - April 9th).

A trio of players netted a hat trick led by Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, Wash.) with five. Tucker Jameson (Mechanicsville, Md.) contributed four, and Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) followed with three to form the unit.

Dallas was able to boast an 11-0 lead near the midway point of the contest. At 1:29, the Wildcats ended the shutout with a goal. The Crusaders eight goals in the second quarter highlighted a big day that included a season-high 50 shots. Defense also helped create plenty of opportunities, as Johnson & Wales committed 30 turnovers and had 17 successful clears out of 32 attempts.

Chasen Reynolds (Fallbrook, Calif.) and Smith combined for a pair of goals in the first stanza to lift the home team up by four. The Crusaders dominated the second quarter with a monster scoring output throughout to widen the gap. Early, Jameson, Cole Griffin (Lucas, Texas), and Jake Frederick (Coppell, Texas) all joined the scoring column the first time. Jameson gave the squad a third player with multiple goals, Frederick netted his lone score to go with a game-high three assists, and Griffin ticked his first collegiate point in the goal column. Overall their were eight different scorers for the Crusaders.

Smith was able to garner the first hat trick with the other two goals. His final one came 14 seconds in response to the Wildcats. Jameson was able to notch a hat trick with two of UD's first three goals in the next half. Early posted both goals in the final quarter, which were the last two in the contest. The junior did dish a pair of helpers to finish second with five points.

All 23 players were able to appear in the match.

Dallas also achieved exactly 50 groundballs with double-digits in each quarter. Paul Mosimann (Manassas, Va.) led with nine – in large part due to his 9-for-15 in faceoffs. UD only turned the ball over 15 times and were 35-for-40 in successful clear attempts. Alex Graham (League City, Texas) forced three caused turnovers and picked up four groundballs.

The Wildcats had Deshaunte Longley, Joshua Williamson, and Coleton Threlkeld reach the scoring column. Wiley Cates made 20 saves against 38 shots faced in a complete game. He added eight groundballs.

Early surpassed the career points record for the program with 69. Matt Cyr ('15) held the previous mark of 68. Early now holds two career records. His other was assists, which is now increased to 23.
