Crusaders Finish 8th at 2019 West Cup

La Verne, Calif. - The University of Dallas men's golf team completed Round Three of the 2019 West Cup held at Sierra La Verne Country Club on Tuesday. Dallas placed eighth out of 16 total teams, while finishing ahead of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) foe Trinity University. Emilio Montalvo (Mexico City, Mexico) led Dallas after he moved up seven spots on the day while carding a 75 on the round for a total score of 228 (76, 77, 75) to finish tied for 22nd.

Montalvo finished with 35 pars, which was tied for second-best in the field. Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) also had 30+ pars as they finished with 33 and 30, respectively. Wade led the team with eight birdies.

Wade tied for 22nd with Montalvo after shooting a 79 on the day. Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) shot a 75 in Round 3 for a 229 (74, 80, 75) which put him in a tie for 28th place.

Robby Evans (Flower Mound, Texas) made the biggest improvement on day two after he climbed his way up eight spots to finish with a total score of 244 (83, 85, 76). Thomas Schuberg (Camarillo, Calif.) shot an 80 on the day for a score of 245.

Ken Kong (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps) won the tournament after shooting -2 on Tuesday as he finished with a 212 (-1 to par) Austin Long (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps) came in second with a 219. Three other players tied for third place with a 220.

Complete Individual Standings

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College won the tournament with a cumulative team score of 874.  The University of Redlands came in second with an 883, while the University of La Verne finished in third (889).

This tournament featured a difficult field of teams, with six programs that finished ahead of the 49th ranked Crusaders at least 32 or above. The top three finishers were within the top-25, while Willamette University and Pacific Lutheran University checked in at 26 and 27, respectively. Rankings were released by Golfstat, with the latest coming out today.
