Crusaders Blow Past Southwestern Adventist University 89-45

KEENE, Texas – The University of Dallas men's basketball team blasted Southwestern Adventist University 89-45 on Tuesday evening in an all around team effort. The Crusaders (3-0) took a 43-25 lead into halftime after a 10-0 run to end the period. Southwestern Adventist (0-7) cut into the Dallas lead and hung around until Dallas went on a couple big runs to close the game out. 14 different Crusaders scored on the night, as five members notched their first points on the season. 

 After a shaky start to the game, Dallas gained an 8-3 lead. Dallas later pushed its lead to 13-5 after consecutive buckets in transitions. Out of the timeout the Knights hit a long two pointer. SWAU later went on a run to cut into the Dallas lead (16-10). UD took advantage of missed shots on the other end to help grow its lead to 29-15. At the 5:54 mark, Scott Bolen (Houston, Texas) scored his first two points on the season to put UD up 31-17. SWAU found another run to cut into the deficit (33-22). A few moments later, Joshua Nunn (St. Louis, Mo.) converted his two shots from the charity stripe in his season debut. (37-25) UD went on a 10-0 run to close out the half holding the Knights scoreless in the final three and a half minutes, but were unable to push its lead any further. 

Dallas out rebounded SWAU 24-14 in that half. T'Cory James led all scorers with nine points in that period. Nine different Crusaders found its way into the scoring column in the half.

Three straight Dallas buckets to open the second half gave the Crusaders a 49-25 advantage capped off by an easy lay-in by Michael Wambsganss (Denver, Colo.) forcing a SWAU timeout. James kept the Knights in the game with key buckets. Consecutive three-pointers from Hyde gave UD a 67-33 lead at the 12:20 mark. Bolen scored three consecutive buckets to give Dalas a 77-38 lead. Jack Gallant (Los Angeles, Calif.) later hit a trey for his first collegiate points as UD had complete advantage. UD emptied its bench as the team put the final finishing touches on the Knights to win 89-45. 

Cameran Hyde (Missouri City, Texas) grabbed his first career double-double leading UD with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Dustin Mathis (Fort Worth, Texas) added 12 points as Wambsganss grabbed 10. Jai Love (St. Louis, Mo.) dished out a game-high eight assists on the night. Bolen had a career night with eight points. Matt Holloway (Melissa, Texas), Garrett Young (Texarkana, Texas) and Exclamation Mark King (Lubbock, Texas) each scored their first collegiate points versus the Knights. 

Dallas shot 55.1% (38-69) on the night and 39.1% (9-23) from three-point range. UD outrebounded SWAU 56-24, with 41 of them coming off the defensive glass. 44 of the Crusaders points came off the bench. 

James led the Knights with 19 points while Makai Newkirk added eight. No one player had more than four rebounds for SWAU.

Dallas will travel to California to play in the Chapman/Whittier Classic over Thanksgiving Break. The Crusaders will first take on Whittier College (CA) on Friday (Nov. 29) at 2:00 p.m. (PST). UD will then face Chapman University (CA) on Saturday (Nov. 30) at 2:00 p.m. (PST).
