2019-20 UD Men's Basketball Awarded Team Academic Excellence Award; 5 Named to NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the eighth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards, created by the NABC Committee on Academics. These awards recognize outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2019-20 season. To earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA must count the grade point averages of all men’s student-athletes who competed during the 2019-20 season.

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – Joshua Nunn (St. Louis, Mo.) was selected to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National All-Academic Division I Basketball Team on Wednesday, March 11, at the National Championship Banquet at Seven Springs Resort on Wednesday, March 11th.

KERRVILLE, Texas – In exclusive voting by head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the All-SCAC Awards and Teams were released on Saturday night following the two semifinal contests. The University of Dallas men's basketball team had a trio of players selected as Michael Wambsganss (Denver, Colo.), Dustin Mathis (Fort Worth, Texas), and Jai Love (St. Louis, Mo.) were all selected as Honorable Mention recipients.

SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Dallas men’s basketball team fell to Centenary College 77-73 on Saturday evening in the season finale. The Crusaders (12-13, 8-10 SCAC) led 36-35 at halftime. Both teams went back-and-forth in the scoring column in the second half. With 2:56 remaining Jai Love (St. Louis, Mo.) put UD ahead with his jumper, but Centenary went on a 6-0 run to retake the lead and go up 75-71 with 26 seconds remaining. Five seconds later, Love drained another jump shot to give Dallas life. Seth Thomas made two more free throws for Centenary, while the Crusaders could not buy a basket in the final ticks. UD would eventually be eliminated from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) tournament at the end of the night because of the other outcomes across the league.

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Dallas men’s basketball team fell in overtime 95-94 to the University of St. Thomas (TX) on Friday evening. The Crusaders (12-12, 8-9 SCAC) shot 46% from the field, 44% from three-point range, and turned the ball over less than UST, but the Celts were able to convert 25 points off of those UD turnovers. St. Thomas (22-2, 15-2 SCAC) had seven blocks in the game and shot 48.5% from the field to take the close game in the end. Dallas never let the game get out of reach all game, but in the end could not find a way to take down the 2020 Southern Colligate Athletic Conference (SCAC) regular season champions.
