Crusaders Fall 7-2 to LaGrange College on Sunday

LaGrange, Ga. – The University of Dallas baseball team was defeated by LaGrange College 7-2 on Sunday. Both teams had eight hits in the contest, but the Panthers were able to string together a couple of key innings with multiple runs to take Sunday's action. Two LaGrange batters notched three RBI in the game to help give the Panthers pitchers room for error. Dallas stranded eight runners on the day and were unable to comeup with any big innings.

Dallas got two runners on base to begin the game but were unable to bring anything across. With two outs LaGrange started buzzing with a double down the field line and a walk, but Ryan Flores (San Diego, Calif.) struck out the final batter to escape with no damage. In the second, Nicolas Hovde (Waco, Texas) singled to left center with one out. Graeme Williams (Frisco, Texas) singled to center field in the next at bat to put runners on the corners. Mavrick Martinez (Friendswood, Texas) doubled to left field to drive in the first run of the game. Joseph Vondrachek (North St. Paul, Minn.) singled to center field in the next UD at bat to put UD up 2-0.  In the Panthers half, McKinley Erves tripled to left center with the based loaded to drive in three RBI and give the LaGrange its first lead of the contest.

After a fairly silent third and fourth inning on both sides LaGrange scored twice in the fifth to grow its lead (5-2). Trey Pearce drove in a pair in the sixth to help LaGrange go up 7-2. Dallas had three base runners in the seventh but were unable to bring any runs across. In the final two innings both defenses stepped up at the right time to hold runs off the board.

Vondrachek, Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas), and Hovde all had two hits on the day. Martinez and Vondracheck each notched an RBI on the day. Hovde and Williams scored the two UD runs. Taylor and Martinez collected a double on the day. Flores pitched four innings for the Crusaders, allowing three runs, and had one strikeout. Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas) went 1.2 innings on the mound, allowing four runs off three hits and struck out two batters. Tyler Montemayor (Boerne, Texas) pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing just one hit and one walk along with two strikeouts. UD stranded eight batters in the game. Williams picked up his first career hit and run scored on the day.

Pearce and Erves had three RBI each to lead LaGrange. The Panthers drew six walks but stranded eight batters on base. Joe Ruth was the only batter to collect multiple hits on the day. LaGrange notched two doubles and a triple in the game. Richie Post got the win on the mound going 4.2 innings, allowing six hits, two runs, and striking out two men. LaGrange used four relievers to take the win.

Dallas will host East Texas Baptist University on Tuesday for a single, nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from Crusader Field.
