Hanson Stands Out in 11-1 Win on Saturday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team got the offense started right away on Saturday, and never allowed Austin College close the gap as the team earned its first SCAC run-rule this season in an 11-1 decision over eight innings.
The Crusaders salvaged a win in the series after a pair of one-run setbacks yesterday. Eight runs over the first three innings propelled the home team to a big advantage. Seth Hanson (Apache Junction, Ariz.) headlined the offense with a two home runs and a career-high five RBI. Austin Anderson (Waxahachie, Texas) threw effectively over five innings to qualify for his first collegiate win.
The victory also ended a three-game losing streak.

Anderson pitched a perfect inning in the top of the first, and then Dallas came up with three hits in a row to start its half. Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) ripped an RBI-single through the left side to give him one in all three games of the weekend series. After an out was made, Luke Boylson (Fairview, Texas) doubled in a run. Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice fly out to center field.
Joseph Vondrachek (North St. Paul, Minn.) – who went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored – added to the lead by scoring on a wild pitch.
Things broke open for UD in the third with a quartet of runs. Bolyson started the inning with his second hit in a row on a single up the middle. After an out, the left fielder stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. He didn't have to hustle home, as Hanson soared a homer deep over the left field wall. Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) singled up the middle for another pair of ribbies.
Anderson, who made his fourth start of the year and first since February 15th, kept the 'Roos at bay in five frames. He scattered three hits and walked one to go with four strikeouts.
Enrique Vigil (San Antonio, Texas) made his first career appearance on the mound in the sixth. Other than a walk, the typical outfielder kept the shutout going.
Austin College broke through on a home run that banged off the left field foul pole to make it 8-1.
Hanson struck back with his second, two-run shot of the game to left. He extended his team-lead and set a new career-high for the campaign with six. The sophomore finished off a shortened contest with an infield single to third that scored Patton. Hanson's previous best run production game was four on March 7th, 2017 against Dallas Christian College.
After Hanson's game-leading three-hit day, a quartet of players notched multi-hit performances with two apiece. Stickler, Patton, Boylson, and Vondrachek formed the group. Patton also doubled for the team's other extra-base knock and gives him a team-high eight overall.
Stickler upped his streak to reaching base safely to 57 games in a row dating back to last season. He has only been unsuccessful one game during the past two years (66 games) since the junior became a regular starting center fielder.
The 'Roos were outhit 13-6. Six individuals recorded hits with Alphonse having the lone damaging one. Oscar Gonzalez took the loss by giving up eight runs on nine hits in six innings. He settled down with only one batter reaching during the last three innings of his appearance, but UD had already pulled away.

Dallas will have a battle next weekend on the road with top-25 ranked Texas Lutheran University. A doubleheader is slated for April 7th at 12 p.m., and the series finale will be the 8th at 1 p.m.
