Crusaders Baseball get Walk-Off to complete Sweep on Saturday
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team swept Saturday's doubleheader on a chilly day over Mississippi University for Women. The Crusaders erupted for 10 runs through the first three innings of game one en route to an 11-4 final.
Dallas had to erase a 3-run deficit in the second contest after being down 4-1 through three. A two-run blast by Seth Hanson (Apache, Ariz.) helped begin the task in the fourth. After knotting the score at five in the fifth inning, the Crusaders set the stage for a walk-off in the seventh. Both games were scheduled for seven today, as Dallas improved to 3-3 overall with its third triumph of the series.

The Crusaders plated a pair of runs in the first and second innings to go up by four runs early. Jessup Scott (Lewiston, Idaho) and Enrique Vigil (San Antonio, Texas) each ripped an RBI triple in the first and second inning, respectively, to highlight the offense.
A six-run third pushed UD out to a 10-0 advantage as 10 batters came up to bat. All of the home team's runs came with two outs in the frame. Joseph Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.), Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas), Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas), and Scott all had RBI base hits.
The Owls got on the board in the fifth thanks to a trio of errors. They put another two runs on the board in the sixth.
Dallas finished with 12 hits, led by Abalos with his third, three-hit game of the season. He scored twice and drove in a pair. Patton (2-4), Scott (2-2), and Vigil (2-3) were the other Crusaders with multi-hit games. Patton notched the other extra base hit, which was his double in the huge third. Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) recorded a single and reached base three times via a walk. Stickler also swiped a trio of bags, to help UD amass five steals overall. Abalos and Scott had the other thefts.
Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) pitched five innings in his start to earn his first win of 2018. He allowed two runs (0 earned) on four hits to go with three walks and six strikeouts. Justin Keller (Fairfax, Va.) made his collegiate debut in the seventh, and fanned two batters.

Dallas was able to maintain its streak of scoring in the first inning every game so far in this young campaign. A wild pitch is what got the Crusaders on top early.
However, the Owls were able to go up for the first time this series with four runs crossing in the third inning. Sumpter Bass singled to left for the first run. Lukas Murphy had the go-ahead single up the middle, and then a fielder's choice allowed Kyle Brown to reach that plated the remaining runs.
Luke Boylson (Fairview, Texas) sparked Dallas with a one-out double in the fourth, and Hanson followed with his first home run of the year and first for the Crusaders at home.
After Mississippi University for Women countered with a run in the fifth, UD knotted the game with two runs a half inning later.
The next two innings, UD's pitcher limited the opponent to a baserunner at first. In the seventh, Bass was picked off by Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas) to end the small threat.
That momentum was pulled over to the bottom of the inning, as Vigil legged out a triple to lead off. Consecutive walks brought up Patton in the lineup card, who crushed a long single to left center field and sent the Crusaders mobbing the sophomore third baseman.
Dallas was outhit 7-6, but posted half of its knocks for extra bases compared to a double by Austin Woodall on the Owls. Boylson had a 2-for-3 game, while Abalos kept his six-game hitting streak alive with the other one not mentioned. Abalos scored two runs and had a ribbie.
Stickler was hitless without an at bat, but walked three times a second game on the day. He kept his on-base streak alive with 37.
Nick Goehring (Phoenix, Ariz.) tossed three innings of no-hit baseball out of the bullpen. He allowed an unearned run, while walking two and fanning six. Wallace was credited with his first career win in third outing this season.
