Baseball Blasts by Dallas Christian on Tuesday

DALLAS – The University of Dallas offense was extremely potent with its fourth contest to crack double-digits on the season with a 17-10 victory at Dallas Christian College on Tuesday. Dallas sweeps the three games on the season versus the opposing Crusaders and won for the first time ever playing at the ballpark on DCC's campus. The Crusaders from Irving enjoyed notching several season-bests including: 23 hits, 15 RBI, six doubles, two triples, and three home runs.

13 players recorded a hit in the batting order for Dallas, with seven of them notching multi-hit days. Overall the visiting Crusaders totaled 42 bases and clubbed 11 extra base hits. These numbers are second highest in a single game for the program since 2004. The highest marks for each feat are in the same game with Fisk University on March 30, 2005, at 48 and 16, respectively.

NOTABLE STATISTICS

- Enrique Vigil (San Antonio, Texas) posted his first career multiple hit game at UD with a 3-for-5 and personal best six RBI. The outfielder was a triple away from the cycle.

- His total run production surpassed Brice Cell's (Keller, Texas) five earlier this season at Austin College on March 19 in the 14-3 win. It also was two away from matching the program's single-game record set by Tony Gallizzi versus Carleton (MN) on Mar. 15, 2001.

- Seth Hanson (Apache Juncture, Ariz.) was also a three-bagger away from the cycle with a 3-for-7. He clubbed his fourth home run of the campaign to tie him back for the team-high.

- Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) added a 3-for-7 with two of his knocks counting for doubles.

- Cell did come off the bench and went 2-for-2 with a triple.

- The last contest UD had 17 runs or more was this exact mark against the same opponent at home on Apr. 7, 2010.

- Prior to that run total, the highest was 25 versus Ecclesia College on April 25, 2008. In that same game, Dallas also displayed 25 ribbies which remains the highest count after 15. Tuesday's RBI amount (15) tied Apr. 14, 2010 at Sul Ross State University.

- The last contest the Crusaders had at least 20 hits was April 5, 2011 against East Texas Baptist University (20). The Ecclesia College contest mentioned above was the last game to surpass Tuesday's hit total with 25.

- This game has the most doubles since the team collected five at Southwestern (04/19/14). The three homers is most since four were clobbered at Austin College on Apr. 10, 2011.

- Nick Goehring (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned his first collegiate victory going two scoreless innings of relief. He allowed a base runner on a hit and fanned two.

- Dallas Christian was led by Austin Holbrook (3-5) with three ribbies and two doubles. Anthony Esposito had the other extra base hit, which was a double.

- Jacob Patlan contributed a pair of runs-batted-in.

- Gabe Benza was the most effective pitcher for DCC finishing the last three innings and allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk. He struck out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Playing as the visiting Crusaders this matchup, UD jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Stickler legged out a triple, but then scored on an error to leadoff the game with the first run scored. After Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas) beat out an infield hit, Hanson went deep for a two-run homer.

Dallas kept on piling on the offense to put this game out of reach early. Another three runs in the second extended the advantage to 6-0. Vigil and Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) punched back-to-back doubles with one gone. The Crusaders tallied another pair of two-baggers in the frame as Hanson and Patton knocked consecutive ones with two outs to drive in the other runs.

Another run in the third made it 7-0 and then the home team got on the board for the first time on the day in the bottom of the inning.

Vigil highlighted a five-run, fourth inning with a grand slam for his first long ball of the season. That blast propelled the Crusaders to a 12-1 edge. Another run in the top of the fifth stretched the advantage to the widest margin in the game for the guests at 13-1

The home Crusaders did cut into the deficit with four runs coming across in the bottom half of the frame. However, the Navy and White responded with a trio of runs for the third time in half as many innings. Zach Taylor (Humble, Texas) snuck the team's third round-tripper just fair over the right field wall.

Dallas Christian scored once in the seventh and eighth. It added three runs in the final at bat, but still trailed by a wide gap.

In the ninth, UD rounded out its season-high total on the scoreboard with Patton driving in one. Ryan Hammonds (Cedar Hill, Texas) clobbered a hard hit to left in his first career plate appearance. The starting pitcher would stay in the game in the last inning to play left field.
