UD Athletics Announces Retro Year in 2020-21

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas athletics department has announced that the 2020-21 academic year will honor the original University of Dallas athletic teams with a retro year by wearing some athletic gear of purple and gold, the colors of the school teams from 1907 to 1926.  Athletics Director Dick Strockbine recently met with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the university Athletics, Sports and Recreation Committee, both of which enthusiastically supported the idea.

The University of Dallas was originally located on Oak Lawn Avenue and the teams were known as the Hilltoppers.  During that time the 1909 baseball and football teams won the North Texas Interscholastic Association championships and the 1915 football was recognized as the Independent Champions of the Southwest.  The program produced three National Football League players, Cecil Grigg, Fait Elkins and Alvin Swain with Elkins also winning the United States Amateur Athletic Union Decathlon Championship.

Fans will also be able to purchase retro gear when it becomes available.
