Hovde, J. Griesbauer, Goehring, and Lazarek Named to USCAA National All-Academic Teams

DuBois, Pa. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) released the 2018 USCAA Baseball and Softball National All-Academic Teams during the All-American championship banquet on Sunday.

The National All-Academic team honors are awarded to student-athletes of sophomore standing or higher with at least a 3.5 GPA.

The University of Dallas placed four players total on the team from the baseball and softball programs. A trio came from the baseball squad including: Nicolas Hovde (Waco, Texas), Joseph Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.), and Nick Goehring (Phoenix, Ariz.).

Katelyn Lazarek (Seattle, Wash.) achieved the recognition for UD softball.

Each of these players earned a spot on the National All-Academic Team for the first time in their careers. Lazarek did achieve NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete in 2017. All four players have been on the SCAC Spring Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll each year since arriving with the Crusaders.

Griesbauer tallied seven hits, with four counting for doubles. He played in eight games, while garnering 15 at bats. Goehring lettered his first season, as the left-handed pitcher tossed 22 innings during 12 appearances. He struck out 16. Hovde served primarily as an outfielder defensive replacement, and went out in nine games.

Lazarek lettered her first season this past spring. The sophomore catcher primarily played in the defensive flex position, but was lethal with the bat in her first plate appearance of the 2018 SCAC Tournament with an RBI-double.

Overall in 2017-18, the Crusaders placed 13 student-athletes on a National Academic Team.
