#OTD: Women's Lacrosse Edges Elmhurst; Villanueva HR lifts Baseball by Schreiner; LAX and Softball Get Big Wins in 1st Seasons

On this date in the University of Dallas Athletics History:

April 9, 2017 – Dallas women’s lacrosse finished the season with a 12-6 victory at Elmhurst College (IL). The Crusaders scored six goals per half. Lexi Leite notched six points thanks to a team-high five goals. Lizz Winkler made 13 saves with eight in a second half that limited the opponent to just a goal.

April 9, 2016 – The Dallas baseball team overcame a 7-0 deficit through two innings in order to edge Schreiner University, 10-7. A seven-run fourth knotted things back up. Luciano Villanueva homered to start a three-run eighth. JP Fasone went 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Blake Palmer and William Marshall combined for seven scoreless relief innings and garnered eight of the pitching’s 10 strikeouts.

April 9, 2011 – The Crusaders men’s lacrosse team prevailed 12-4 over Dordt College (IA) to improve to 4-6 in their inaugural campaign. Tony Lemos scored six goals, while Joey Mullen contributed three for a hat trick as well. Blaise Dufrain made 12 saves in goal.

April 9, 2010 - The Crusaders women's lacross team won 17-10 over Waynesburg University at home. Mary Salotto and Christine McFarland combined for 14 goals with eight and six, respectively. 

April 9, 2002 – UD’s softball team rolled to 22-2 and 26-0 over Wiley College. Lynn Bartolotta went a perfect 3-3 with a home run and drove in three and scored three times. Amanda Bludworth added a trio of RBI as well and tripled for one of her two hits. Kristin DiFrancesco struck out nine and did not allow an earned run on two hits.

In game 2, Bludworth went 4-4 (a HR shy of the cycle) with three RBI and five runs scored at the plate. She allowed just one baserunner on a hit in five innings of the run-ruled final. She fanned six. Dallas picked up 18 walks and benefitted from 12 errors.
