Matt Buchhorn resigns as @UofDallas Cross Country, Track & Field Head Coach

IRVING, Texas - Matt Buchhorn has stepped down as the University of Dallas (UD) Men's and Women's Cross Country, Track & Field Head Coach to pursue another career opportunity.

The Granger, Texas, native took over these four respective teams in spring 2012, and helped them transition into the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). The Crusaders are about to embark upon their fourth academic-year of competition in the league.

In their time with Buchhorn, UD student-athletes secured a total of 49 spots on the SCAC Academic Honor Roll. Junior runner Aaron French (Siren, Wis.) became a two-time recipient of the prestigious UD Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year Award. His teammate, Nick Hedlesky (St. Louis, Mo.), was an SCAC Character & Community Student-Athlete-of-the-Week in the spring 2014 term.

Buchhorn also coached Katie McIntyre (Sparta, N.J.), the 2014 SCAC Women's Track & Field Newcomer-of-the-Year. As a freshman, McIntyre was second in the 400-meter dash at the SCAC Championships in San Antonio, Texas. She added another all-conference recognition by anchoring the 4x100-meter relay team to a third-place finish.

Buchhorn, in all, aided in 44 All-SCAC selections for UD. He was named the 2013 SCAC Women's Track & Field Co-Coach-of-the-Year.

Under his leadership, individuals comprising the cross country teams also received accolades from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). Since 2012, four student-athletes have achieved USCAA National All-Academic status. Two others were heralded as USCAA All-Americans.

The women's cross country team triumphed in the University of Dallas Invitational (10/19/13), an event in which Clare Myers (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) earned first-place hardware. Mary Jones (Oneida, Wis.) bested everyone in the University of Ozarks Invitational (09/29/12) to help the Lady Cruasders repeat as back-to-back champions in Clarksville, Ark.

On the men's side, the Crusaders were victorious at the Gerald Richey Invitational (09/14/13) and the Texas Wesleyan University Opener (08/30/13).

Buchhorn navigated the navy and white to 31 school records, which includes one for the men's cross country team, three for the women's cross country team, 16 for the men's track & field team and 11 for the women's track & field team.

He exits as the winningest head coach in the history of the UD cross country and track & field programs.
