Nick Schneigert Solidifies 2023-24 XC/T&F Recruiting Class

IRVING, Texas - Nick Schneigert, head coach of the University of Dallas' Cross Country and Track & Field programs has announced the women's recruiting class for the 2023-24 season.

Teresa Cashen - River Ridge, La. - Mount Carmel Catholic Academy

Cashen is a mid-distance specialist who enjoyed a successful high school career.  She posted PR's of 2:34 in the 800 meters and 1:04.23 in the 400 meters.  Cashen also competed for three years on the cross country team, posting a PR of 20:39 in the 5k, all while being a member of the National Honor Society.  She we will be the Crusaders 800m and 1500m specialist. 

Sophia Choberka - Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. - The King's Academy

Choberka competed for The King's Academy while being homeschooled, competing primarily as a track & field athlete.  Her primary focus was the 400m, where she posted a PR of 1:10.  She will continue to run to 400m for the Crusaders, while also dabbling in the 800m and running cross country.

Breana Looney - Desoto, Texas - Desoto High School

Looney ran both cross country and track & field for Desoto High School and will do the same for UD.  She will be another mid-distance specialist for the track & field team, with PR's of 1:00 in the 400m and 2:27 in the 800m.  In cross country she recorded a PR of 21:25 in the 5k.  On top of her high school experience, Looney competed at the club level with Desoto Nitro, all while being a standout in the classroom and a member of the National Honor Society.  She will specialize in the 800m and 1500m races for UD track & field.

Giselle Avalos - Winnie, Texas - East Chambers High School

Avalos is a UD legacy and was quite keen to commit.  A true long distance specialist, Avalos enjoyed great success with the East Chambers cross country team, placing first at the UIL 3A District Championships with a time of 13:32 in the two mile race.  By the end of her high school career, she had PR's of 5:51 in the one mile race and 12:21 in the two mile race.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Brenda Chicas - Irving, Texas - Macarthur High School

Chicas is a versatile athlete who competed in various events throughout her track & field career and local MacArthur High School.  She will specialize in long sprints on the track side for UD, primarily the 400m, while also competing in cross country.

"This is shaping up to be our strongest recruiting class yet on the women's side," said Schneigert.  "I've been working on this class since the fall of 2021, and I think we have a very solid group coming in.  The cross country team will likely be the deepest team we've had in my tenure, and I believe we will be able to put some points on the board at the conference championship for track & field as well."
