Wilgenbusch Set to Run at NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship on Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Anna Wilgenbusch (St. Paul, Minn.) of the University of Dallas women's cross country team will compete at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship hosted by Rhodes College on Saturday (Nov. 16). Wilgenbusch is undefeated on the year winning all eight meets (setting a new record for wins in a single season) in 2019. She has broken several school and personal records on the campaign and currently holds the program's 2 mile (12:17.7), 3.1 mile (19:12.5), 5,000 meter (17:53.4), and 6,000 meter (21:58.15) records.

Wilgenbusch became just the second women's cross country athlete to win the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Championship last weekend with an incredible program-best run of 21:58.15. She also was the first women's cross country runner to win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship race earlier this month in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Wilgenbusch is one win away from tying the program's all-time wins record (9) with Class of 2011 Hall of Fame inductee Elena Yates.

First year Head Coach Nick Schneigert had this to say about his sophomore runner: "Anna will finally have someone pushing her at this meet which is a great thing. If she sticks with the gameplan that we talked about then she can qualify for the NCAA National Championships with a very great time possibly breaking her own school record again. Every race she is learning how to run a 6k race at a specific pace and thus giving her much experience."

If Wilgenbusch were to qualify for nationals, she would be the fifth athlete in the women's cross country program to do so and be the first since 1984 when Louisa Mox and Vicki Johnson both advanced to that race. The top seven individuals from the South/Southeast Regional will advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky on November 23rd.
