Wilgenbusch Stays Undefeated With New Personal Record; Team Grabs Fourth at USCAA National Championship
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The University of Dallas women's cross country team finished fourth at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Championship meet on Friday. Anna Wilgenbusch (St. Paul, Minn.) continued her dominant season winning her eighth straight meet and set a new school and Personal Record (PR) in the 6k meet. Wilgenbusch notched an impressive time of 21:58.15, breaking her own school record of 22:23.4 which she earned earlier this season. Emma Kate Callahan (Overland Park, Kan.) finished 12th to help Dallas earn a top-five result. The duo claimed All-American honors with Wilgenbusch on First Team and Callahan on Second Team. The top-14 finishers made it onto the All-American Teams with the teams split in half at seven spots each.
Callahan set a new PR running a time of 24:26.03. Sabrina Lucio (Chino, Calif.) brought a 24th place finish in for UD. Elizabeth Regnerus (Round Rock, Texas) and Isabella Childs also grabbed PR's on the day with times of 27:00.77 and 27:54.03, respectively. Mary Korth (McKinney, Texas) and Katie Winston (Phoenix, Ariz.) also had solid times to help the team secure a score of 95 points.
Wilgenbusch becomes just the second athlete in program history to win the USCAA Championship. Class of 2011 Hall of Famer Elena Yates won the race back in 2002. Wilgenbusch (who also captured the SCAC Championship title a week ago) is now a part of a short list of UD athletes who have won individual championships (3).
