Wilgenbusch Wins SCAC Runner of the Year; Post-Race Interview with SCAC

WIDEFIELD, Colo. – Anna Wilgenbusch (St. Paul, Minn.) earned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year on Saturday at the Conference Championships. Wilgenbusch is the first member of the University of Dallas women's cross country team to achieve the feat.

Wilgenbusch has delivered a remarkable campaign for the Crusaders in 2019, winning all seven races she has competed in. This included winning an individual title at the SCAC Championships, the first by a UD runner. Her time of 22:55.5 was 33.3 seconds faster than the next finisher in the competition.

Wilgenbusch has notched five school records, including breaking her own 6k mark at the last two meets prior to Saturday's race. The sophomore also shattered records in the 2 miles, 3.1 miles, and 5k. Her seven wins add to her single-season record that was previously held by UD Hall of Famer, Elena Yates, who had four in 2005.

Wilgenbusch also set a program-most four SCAC Runner of the Week nods, and three Runner of the Week accolades with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

Wilgenbusch runs next with her Crusaders at the USCAA Championship on Saturday, November 9. The meet will be held at Virginia Beach. Wilgenbusch posted a time of 24:31.74 and clinched fifth her freshman year on that course.
