3rd Place for Women's Cross Country in Home Invitational; Hernandez leads team with 6th
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's cross country team finished third in the University of Dallas Invitational on a hot Saturday morning. The Crusaders totaled 67 points and finished ahead of St. Edwards University (75) and Sul Ross State University (120). McMurry University won the meet with 38 points and Austin College claimed runner up with 54.
Clare Hernandez (Dade City, Fla.) led Dallas with a 21:18.47 and finished sixth place among runners that qualified for points. Hardin-Simmons University had a pair of runners with unattached scores. Alexandra Ralles (Tucson, Ariz.) ran for a 22:16.78 mark that placed her 12th. Emma Kate Callahan (Overland Park, Kan.) was right behind with her fastest 5k time of 22:31.9 for 14th.
Caroline Schemel (Greencastle, Pa.) and Catherine Thelen (Raleigh, N.C.) came in 16th and 19th to round out the top-20 finishes that scored. Schemel easily clipped a minute off her last 5k performance with a 23:04.7. It was also a season-best for the junior.
Sydney Tencate from Hardin-Simmons won the individual medal with a 19:23.99 time. She was the only runner to break under 20 minutes. Tiffany Cox scored one point as the top time in the standings from McMurry with a 20:40.87. Eden Llamas from Austin College was next with a 20:46.77, and Amelia Barrett from St. Edwards took three points with a 20:48.84.

The UD women's cross country team won on this date in 2006 in the University of Dallas Invitational II held in Irving.
UP NEXT
Dallas has finished all its 5k races for the fall and concluded the regular season. After next weekend off, the team travels to Seguin, Texas, for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) on October 28th.
