Women's Cross Country Results from Hardin-Simmons University Invitational

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Dallas women's cross country team competed at the Hardin-Simmons University Invitational on Friday. It was the first 5k for the Crusaders this season. Dallas was without its top runner from last season, Angela Moore (Austin, Texas), and last week's fastest runner, Emma Kate Callahan (Overland Park, Kan.), in the competition.

Clare Hernandez (Dade City, Fla.) boasted the quickest time for Dallas with a 21:09.18. She claimed 12th place overall and was fifth individually among other runners from NCAA Division III schools. Alexandra Ralles (Tucson, Ariz.) was the other member of the Crusaders to break within the top 20 spots overall with a time of 21:53.67. The duo each scored personal records (PRs) with their respective marks.

A quartet of runners for UD finished within six spots. Caroline Schemel (Greencastle, Pa.) headed that group with a 23:19.40 result. Catherine Thelen (Raleigh, N.C.) was right there about eight seconds later with a 23:27.54 time. The next two spots are occupied by non-Dallas runners, but then Lauren Zammit (Kingswood, Texas) and Alondra Hurtado (Wichita Falls, Texas) place back-to-back with respective scores 23:41.22 and 23:46.12.

Sydney Tencate from Hardin-Simmons won the overall race with an 18:35.42 time. Kelsey Warren (19:22.51) from Angelo State and Freshiah Ndungu (19:32:84) rounded out the top three on the podium.

Ranger College won the team results with 49 points and Angelo State University followed with 51. Fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Texas Lutheran University got third with 71 points.
