Women's Cross Country Results from Bill Libby Invitational

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Dallas women's cross country team began the 2016 season on Friday at the Bill Libby Invitational. As a team, the Crusaders finished in fifth place with 104 points and averaged a 22:19.20 time.

South Plains College won with a 20:27 minute result and 48 points. Host school McMurry University (21:22 and 68 points) followed in second place, and Ranger College (21:13 and 69 points) rounded out the top three standings.

UD had a lot of debuts on this course including: junior Emily Cosgray (Simonton, Texas) and freshmen Hannah Guth (Lake Charles, La.), Mary Korth (McKinney, Texas), Ana Wilhelm (Kiowa, Kan.), and Mary Rose Corkery (Mansfield, Mass.).

NOTABLE CRUSADER TIMES:

- Sophomore Bridget Kennedy (San Antonio, Texas) paced the team with a 13th place finish of 21:10 minutes.

- Junior Angela Moore (Austin, Texas) claimed 16th with a time of 21:21 in her first collegiate cross country race.

- Cosgray posted a 22:39 result in her first race in her college career.

- Senior Joey Danaher (Boulder, Colo.) and Guth contributed times of 23:11 and 23:15, respectively.

COACH BARBER'S REACTION

"It ended up being hot. 6 PM in Texas in early September will do that...Bridget and Angela ran well together, as did Hannah and Joey. The proximity between their finishes was great" -Head Coach Matthew Barber on the conditions and how the top racers performed

"The two things we worked on today: we grouped the team into smaller units that would be racing together through the first mile and a half/two miles, then they could start to string out naturally. And the other was approaching the first mile very conservatively; running in this heat is not fun and if we approached the first mile conservatively and ran well with our teammates we were going to finish strong. I am proud with how the team ran; there is obvious room for improvement, but they raced this course well. We now have a good baseline going forward to the TLU meet in a couple of weeks." -Head Coach Matthew Barber on Friday's Goals for the Competition
