Theresa Smart Brings Home Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year Award

Junior cross country runner Theresa Smart (Peoria, IL/Richwoods H.S.) is making her mark on and off the field again, earning her second straight University of Dallas Student-Athlete award.  The three-time cross country letter winner competed in six races for UD in the 2009 campaign with bests of 23:12 in the 5k race and 28:42 in the longer 6k run.  The recognition of Smart as UD's top student-athlete represents the second consecutive for the Politics and Spanish major.  Smart was also inducted the newest class of Phi Betta Kappa at a ceremony in the middle of May.

The University of Dallas is location in Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.  The approximately 1,200 undergraduate students that attend the university are challenged academically with a Liberal Arts education in the quaint, Catholic school environment.  At the end of each academic year the Outstanding Student-Athlete award is presented to the lettering student-athlete with the highest GPA.  The award was first presented in 1984.
