Crusaders Take One of Three on the Road

SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Dallas volleyball team played three games in two days at their final SCAC conference crossover weekend of the season hosted by Austin College.

They started their weekend against St. Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 28, defeating the Celts in four sets 25-16, 22-25, 27-25, and 25-21.  Though the Crusaders conceded 11 more kills than they recorded, the game was won at the net and the service game.  Dallas racked up 13 service aces with seven errors, their best mark of the season, compared to two aces on with 10 errors by the Celts.

UD also tallied 18 block assists to St. Thomas' 12 and hit .182 as a team to the Celts .169.  Cassie Dyoub and Alexa Swaller led the team with 11 kills apiece, while Ava Alvarado notched 40 assists.  Devin Henry led all players with 22 digs, and Sydney Love tallied a season-high six block assists.

Game two was also on Saturday against Southwestern University.  Dallas fell to the Pirates in three sets 18-25, 12-25, and 26-28.  Though they made a late push in set three, the Crusaders struggled to find their rhythm on offense, hitting .061 as a team.  Swaller notched 14 kills in the game, her second most of the season.

The Crusaders wrapped up the weekend with a match against Texas Lutheran University on Sunday.  The Bulldogs won in straight sets, defeating Dallas 21-25, 25-15, and 25-16.  Cassie Dyoub recorded 10 kills, bringing her within 30 kills of the 900 mark for her career.

The Crusaders have three games remaining on their schedule.  Next, they will host Austin College on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 pm for their final conference match of the season.
