Whyte and Porras Standout for UD Volleyball on All-SCAC Second Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – On Tuesday, November 05, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) released the 2019 All-SCAC Volleyball awards. Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas) and Abigail Porras (El Paso, Texas) were tabbed Second Team All-Conference to represent the University of Dallas. It is the second year that Whyte has been named to an all-conference team, as she garnered 2018 SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year and 2018 All-SCAC First Team. Dallas last had multiple recipients for all-conference accolades in 2015 with a pair on the second team.

The duo ranked in the top two all season for kills.

Whyte logged 366 kills (2.79/set) and totaled 84 blocks (67 BA) to lead the squad in both categories. The sophomore middle hitter also hit .260 and racked up 23 service aces. Whyte has accumulated 21 matches with double-digits in kills. This includes a season-high 21 kills in a 3-2 win over Centenary College of Louisiana (Oct. 19).

Porras finished the regular season with 362 kills (2.78/set) but did play one match and set fewer than Whyte. The sophomore outside hitter was the team leader in service aces with 56 (next highest 43). Porras contributed 273 digs and 33 total blocks (31 BA). She finished with nine double-doubles (four-of-six matches) and registered double figures for kills in 19 contests (including four straight and five-of-six).

Coaches voted for 16 players for All‐SCAC with 16 points awarded for a first‐place vote, 15 points for a second‐place vote, 14 points for a third‐place vote, etc., down to one point for a 16th‐place vote. Player-of‐the‐Year, Freshman‐of‐the‐Year and Backrow Player‐of‐the‐Year voting were done on a vote‐by‐vote basis, as was Coach‐of‐the‐Year. In all cases, coaches could not vote for themselves or their own players.

Dallas earned the number four seed and will play the number five seed Austin College in the SCAC Quarterfinal on Friday, Nov. 8, at host school Texas Lutheran University.
