UD Volleyball goes 1-3 at Centenary hosted SCAC Crossover
SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Dallas volleyball team completed a 1-3 tournament in the SCAC Crossover hosted at Centenary College. On Friday, Dallas (7-9, 2-3 SCAC) defeated Schreiner University (3-10, 0-4) to split after a 3-0 setback to No. 10 Colorado College (13-2, 4-0). Saturday, UD was defeated by Southwestern University (9-5, 3-1) and Centenary (5-10, 3-2).

Dallas claimed the first two points including an Isabel Garcia (San Antonio, Texas) kill against No. 10 Colorado College. However, the top 10 ranked opponent went on to lead by as many as 12 (22-10) and claimed the opening set.
In the second set, the Crusaders never led but worked the score tied at 13. After allowing four points in a row, they won seven of the next 11 points with a kill by Ellise Anable (Phoenix, Ariz.) capping three straight to make it a 21-20 deficit. The Tigers scored the final points to secure the 2-0 lead.
The last set saw the Crusaders go up 4-1 early and lead by a slim 9-8 score. CC used a 12-2 run to take control of the set and win the first match on the weekend.
Anable, Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas), and Abigail Porras (El Paso, Texas) combined for 15 of the team's 18 kills. Larissa Ramirez (San Antonio, Texas) had 17 assists.
Colorado College was led by Meaghan Hohman with nine kills. Georgia Mullins and Haley Harris each posted seven. Mullins led the blocks with four. Lizzy Counts notched 25 assists.

A 9-2 run started the game for the Crusaders with Garcia capping the start on a service ace. UD built a 15-8 advantage before the Mountaineers scored the next six points to narrow the gap to one. Ingrid Stading (Austin, Texas) had a kill to end the threat and a few points later her classmate Ilagan would be on serve for five points that were part of a 6-0 run that helped win the set.
A 7-1 run in the next set helped erase a one-point deficit and push Dallas up by five (15-10). The Crusaders' largest lead was seven on a few occasions, as the early run proved to be the difference in a set that saw points traded most of the way.
Dallas trailed by as many as four (14-10) in the third set and fought to come within one the remainder of the way. Porras had a kill make it 22-21, but Schreiner was able to get a kill by Kayla Lofland to secure a 3-2 edge on the last five points and keep the contest alive.
With the teams locked in another tight set through 18-all, the Crusaders rattled off six straight points and seven-of-nine. Whyte and Anable nailed consecutive kills to start the surge, and with Whyte on serve she helped win a trio of aces in that stretch.
Anable led all players with 14 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double. Porras hit .294 thanks to 13 kills, three errors, and 34 total attacks. Whyte rounded out the trio of UD players in double-digits for kills with 11.
Garcia and Anna Stevenson (Dallas, Texas) tossed in six kills apiece, with Stevenson hitting an effective .417. UD hit .215 and accumulated a season-best 58 kills. Ramirez totaled 38 assists and Chloe Ilagan (Sugar Land, Texas) garnered 24 digs for a personal-best. UD's 58 assists were a season-high and the team eclipsed double-digits in services aces (11) for the fourth time on the year.
Amanda Combs and Lofland each recorded 13 kills to pace Schreiner's offense. Giselle Flores had 21 digs.

The Crusaders struggled most of the morning with Southwestern University, dropping the first and third sets by the same score. In the second set, Dallas countered a 5-0 run by SU with a 9-2 scoring swing to knot the score at 16. Both sides traded 3-point stretches and an attack error by the Pirates gave UD a 20-19 lead to finish the 4-0 run. Southwestern claimed the middle set with the next five points and six-of-seven.
Porras delivered seven kills with two errors on 21 total attacks for a .238 kill percentage. Ramirez had 13 assists and Ilagan collected 13 digs. Dallas did have two more blocks (6-4) than the Pirates.
Southwestern totaled 39 kills and hit .257 led by Elleanna McGown with 10 kills. Her nine digs had her shy a double-double. Riley Brantley, Darby Stowers, and Katelyn Whitehead formed a trio of players with six kills. Whitehead added 25 assists.

Dallas reached double figures in kills all four sets, but after winning the opening frame was unable to edge a feisty Centenary team on its home court in the Gold Dome. A back-and-forth first set had the team's locked at 20-20. An attack error by the Ladies put Ramirez on serve and allowed the Crusaders to gain the 1-0 set lead with the final five points going to the guests. Stevenson and Porras had kills and Ramirez aced during that closing run.
The second set had seven ties including a couple late in the frame that included a 24-24 score. Whyte got a kill to level the score and keep Dallas alive at that point, but the final points belonged to Centenary on kills by Elizabeth Epley and Alyssa Davis.
In the third set, Dallas was ahead by three for most of the later stages. Anable put UD in front 23-21 on a kill, but Centenary answered with back-to-back kills by Davis. An error on Dallas setup the potential set point, but Stephanie Janysek (Sinton, Texas) dropped a kill out of UD's timeout. After trading points to go past 25 again, the Ladies got consecutive kills by Ami Powers to go up 2-1.
The Crusaders gave one final boost down 24-19 to get within one, but Liz Lowe earned the winning point on a kill.
Dallas held a slight edge in kills (56-54) but was outdone in points by one (73-72) and digs by 10 (90-80). Whyte posted a game-high 19 kills and hit .385 with four errors and 39 total attacks. Stevenson eclipsed double-digits in kills (10) for the first time this fall and was one shy from tying a career-best from last season (Sept. 18 vs. Arlington Baptist). Poras tossed in nine kills. Ramirez and Janysek spit setting duties and had 25 and 16 assists, respectively. Stevenson managed a personal-best six block assists and added a solo block to lead Dallas' nine total. Rachael Firm (Hesperia, Calif.) contributed three block assists.
A trio of players reached double-digits in kills including Davis with a team-high 15. Her 12 digs gave her a double-double. Epley and Lowe notched 10 kills apiece to form that group. Marissa Sandoval had 34 digs and Brittany Risner claimed 29 assists.
