UD Volleyball Drops Match to Millsaps on Saturday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas volleyball team completed the University of Dallas Invite on Saturday with a 3-0 setback to Millsaps College (7-4). The Crusaders (5-6) snapped a three-game winning streak and finished 2-1 in their home non-conference weekend.

Down 19-15 in the first set, the Crusaders closed in on Millsaps with three straight points that were started on a kill by Anna Stevenson (Dallas, Texas) and service ace by Larissa Ramirez (San Antonio, Texas). The Majors answered the threat by the home team with four points highlighted by consecutive block assists that included Emily Herring on each.

UD claimed two early points in the next set but quickly fell behind as many as five points on a couple occasions. Down 13-8, the Crusaders cut the score to 13-11, but a 6-0 run sealed the set for the Majors.

Totaling their most kills in a set on Saturday, the Crusaders posted 14 and led the majority of the final frame. Scoring the first two points, Dallas inched ahead by a slight margin most of the way and never trailed until MC went up 20-19 that was part of a six-point stretch. Kills by Isabel Garcia (San Antonio, Texas), Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas), and Savanah Walker (San Antonio, Texas) kept the Crusaders within a point after the surge, but Millsaps capped a 3-1 weekend with the final two scoring results.

Whyte led the Crusaders with 10 kills, while Abigail Porras (El Paso, Texas) contributed eight. Garcia and Stevenson each went for five. Ramirez had 26 assists.

Both sides had 44 digs.

Millsaps got led in kills by Erica Bennett and McKenzie Petricko with 12 and 10, respectively. Herring was a force on the block with seven block assists, while Bree Reed was part of six. The Majors finished with 16.
