GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas volleyball team split the two games played on Saturday in the cross-divisional tournament hosted at Southwestern University. Dallas added to its win streak in the first match in a 3-0 sweep over Austin College, to win seven in-a-row. Dallas (8-4, 1-1 SCAC) also faced off with No. 2 ranked Colorado College. CC was able to continue its undefeated season success to sweep the Crusaders.

The Crusaders started the conference season with a big sweep over Austin College 25-22, 25-19, 26-24. Dallas has only won its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener one other time – that was in 2012 when they swept Centenary College in Georgetown, Texas at Southwestern University.

Ellise Anable (Phoenix, Ariz.) provided the spark with her third double-double on the season with 10 kills and 11 digs. In the game, the Crusaders had three players reach double figures in the dig category. Elizabeth Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Lexi Shafer (Sugar Land, Texas) joined Anable in that category having 10 and 12, respectively. Smith led the team with 24 assists to produce her third double-double on the season.  

Dallas fell behind Austin College (7-6, 2-2 SCAC) in the first set 9-2. The Crusaders were able to chip away at the lead and went on a 4-0 run to tie the set at 15. Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas) provided two kills to allow Dallas break even. Tied at 18, Abigail Porras (El Paso, Texas) capped off another run with a kill to put the Crusaders up 21-18. Austin College cut the lead to 23-22, but hit back-to-back errors to give the Crusaders the set one win.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 6-2 lead in set two. The 'Roos charged back and gained a 9-8 lead. UD made a run of their own with Anna Stevenson (Dallas, Texas) and Isabel Garcia (San Antonio, Texas) each pounding kills to go up 12-10. Kristen Masey added a kill to give AC a 16-15 lead. Out of the timeout called by Dallas, the Crusaders went on a 8-0 run. Anable and Smith had kills to put the Crusaders up 23-16. Dallas carried this momentum to the set win.  

Austin College came out strong in the third set with a 11-6 lead. Dallas came back to tie the game at 11 with a kill by Stevenson and a Porras ace. Dallas gave it right back to the 'Roos with three straight errors to give AC a 15-11 lead. The two teams traded points until it was tied 21. Hannah Arbaugh added a kill for AC along with a UD error to find the lead again (23-22). Garcia's kill and another 'Roos error allowed Dallas to be one point away from the set win. Aelyn Rodriguez added a kill to tie the game at 24. Austin College did not take advantage of having the serve by allowing an attack error. Anable finished off the Roos' with a kill to secure the UD sweep.

(Match vs. Colorado College)

Colorado College put an end to the Crusaders 7-game winning-streak. The Tigers swept UD 25-14, 25-18, 25-7. The Tigers (13-0, 2-0 SCAC) were led by Haley Harris who had 14 kills and added eight digs. Whyte led the Crusaders with five kills. Krystyn Pua (Escondido, Calif.) and Sarah Hughes (Fair Oaks, Calif.) led the team with eight digs each.

Colorado College had a 9-6 lead in set one and then had a 6-0 run to push the lead to 15-6. The Crusaders had a 3-0 run of their own to cut the lead to eight (18-10). The Tigers did not hold back and finished strong in set one.

UD cut the lead to 15-13 in set two after Colorado College jumped out to a considerable lead. An 8-0 Tigers run help grow a considerable lead again for CC (22-15). Dallas was unable to stop the Colorado College momentum in set two.

The Tigers carried the momentum from the first two sets and cruised in set three to a three-set win over Dallas.

Dallas will continue play in the cross-divisional tournament hosted by Southwestern University tomorrow. The Crusaders will play Southwestern University at 10:00 a.m. and Centenary College of Louisiana at 2:00 p.m.
