Volleyball falls to Loyola; Defeats Dillard to Open Millsaps/Belhaven Tournament

JACKSON, Miss. - The University of Dallas volleyball team split two matches on Friday at the Millsaps/Belhaven Tournament. Both matches were held at Millsaps College. After falling 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 in the first match to Loyola University, the Crusaders (2-3) bounced back with their first set sweep victory of the 2018 season. UD topped Dillard University 25-15, 25-9, 25-14.

Dayjah Whyte (Round Rock, Texas) posted a personal-best 13 kills to lead the Dallas offense. Defensively she made five blocks with two solo blocks. Isabel Garcia (San Antonio, Texas) and Ellise Anable (Phoenix, Ariz.) each contributed six kills. 

Elizabeth Smith (Broken Arrow, Okla.) garnered 25 assists, while Krystyn Pua (Escondido, Calif.) notched 10 digs. 

Loyloa (6-4) was led by Malea Howie with 10 kills, while Isabella Clayton and Tylar Beckham made seven and six, respectively. Beckham swatted 10 blocks.

The Crusaders recovered with their first straight set sweep of the season. Anable and Whyte cracked double-digits with 11 kills apiece. It was a season-high for Anable, who also added seven digs. Smith improved on her season-best in assists by three with 28 total. Pua boasted a career-high 19 digs and served four aces which were half of what UD garnered as a team. 

Codi Fillmore led the Bleu Devils (4-7) in kills with nine. Dillard had 17 overall, with the next highest individauals posting three. Kynnedi Brown picked up 10 digs to lead the defense. 

UP NEXT

Dallas will play at Belhaven University on Saturday with an 11 a.m. tilt versus the host. Dallas concludes the four-match weekend with LaGrange College at 1 p.m. on the neutral court.
