Crusaders Debut at HSU Early Season Invite; Wilgenbusch and Hernandez Shine in 1500 Meter

ABILENE, Texas - The University of Dallas women's track and field team began the 2019 season at the HSU Early Season Invite on Saturday. Odd conditions on the day with 30 mph wind gusts and temperatures in the high 40s made for a challenging day. Pole Vault was canceled due to the fact. Anna Wilgenbusch (St. Paul, Minn.) and Clare Hernandez (Dade City, Fla.) finished second and third overall in the 1500-meter race for Dallas.

Brenda Mendoza (Dumas, Texas), Athena Garnica (Phoenix, Ariz.), Katie Dieteman (Erie, Pa.), Lauren Zammit (Kingswood, Texas), and Wilgenbusch all made their track debuts on the day. Wilgenbusch and Hernandez finished second (5:39.63) and third (5:50.66) overall in the 1500-meter, respectively.

Zammit competed in the 400-meter race.

Garnica competed in shot put, discus, and javelin for the Crusaders. Garnica finished within the top 10 in discus with a 30.51-meter throw.

Mendoza and Dieteman came in 2nd and 3rd overall in their heat of the 1500-meter race.

Anna Brunk (Lemont, Ill.) made her debut in the 100-meter hurdles finishing in ninth place with an 18.35 mark.
