Hassink Breaks another UD Record; Set the Shot Put Record at Mines Last Chance
GOLDEN, Colo. - For the second straight competition, Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) shattered another University of Dallas women's track and field record. After breaking the Hammer Throw at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship two weeks ago with a 119'8" (36.53 Meters) mark, the junior surpassed the school best in the Shot Put on Friday at Colorado School of Mines Last Chance. She barely edged the old mark by 1.75 inches, as she threw a 38'8.75" (11.80m).
The previous record was 38'7" held by Taryn Hames at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas on May 4, 2006.
Hassink had been steadily increasing her distance in the Shot Put the past several meets. Her most recent personal record at the SCAC Championship was 11.71 Meters, and was good enough for second in the league. She was the only Crusader to earn an All-Conference award.
Hassink wrapped up her afternoon in the Hammer Throw. She etched a 34.43m result.
Hassink emerged this season as one of the top competitors on the University of Dallas women's track and field team. Hassink, who is a two-year letter winner in volleyball, began her first spring throwing in the Shot, Hammer, and Discus Throw.
The junior improved on her marks most of the competitions this season, including setting a trio of personal records (PRs) at the most recent outing in Seguin, Texas, in Shot, Hammer, and Discus Throw. Hassink earned an extra chance and delivered as she neared the school record in Shot and had already broken the Hammer. Both of those milestones signify an incredible spring the UD thrower displayed.
