Basil and Hassink finish well behind PRs at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Dallas women's track and field team competed at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational on Saturday. Several Crusaders landed Personal Record (PR) marks, while others debuted on new events this season. It was also good for the team that is looking to build some more towards the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship that is nearly a month away in San Antonio, Texas.

NOTABLE RESULTS

- Clare Basil (Arnold, Md.) set a new PR in the 800 Meters by running a 2:29.97 time. Basil claimed the highest place by a UD runner in the meet with fifth.

- Basil added a top 10 finish in her first 3,000m race on the track this spring with a 12:07.35 result for sixth. This competition was the first one to offer this race that UD was at this spring.

- Mary Korth (McKinney, Texas) also debuted in a 3K for track with a 13:19.86 mark.

- Mary Rose Corkery (Mansfield, Mass.) secured PRs in the 800m (3:05.33) and 1500m (6:33.85). 

- Shelby Waldron (Banning, Calif.) performed her second straight week in the Triple Jump and got third place with an 8.96m distance.

- Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) continues to build up her throws in the field. The volleyball dual athlete notched PRs in a trio of events. Hassink claimed sixth in the Shot Put (10.59m) and Hammer Throw (22.93m). She added a 24.66m throw in the Discus.

- Vanessa Dimkpa made her collegiate debut in the Discus by throwing a 19.49m result.

UP NEXT

Most of Dallas is off next weekend. Katie McIntyre (Sparta, N.J.) is scheduled to race at the Sam Howell Invitational on April 7-8. After that, the Crusaders return for the third straight competition hosted in Abilene. McMurry University hosts again on Apr. 13 with the McMurry Open.
