SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's track and field team competed in the Texas Lutheran University Bulldog Relays on Saturday to start the 2017 campaign. The Crusaders set a new school record in the  800m Sprint Medley Relay (100-100-200-400/Katie McIntyre, Cora Keil, Julia Ringel, Maggie Larson) with a time of 2:09.34.

The TLU Bulldog Relays saw several new competitors make their debuts for the Crusaders which brought much excitement to the track for the team. A squad of throwers also got to run in a co-ed 4x100m that was just for field competitors only. Although the Throwers' Relay is a coed event, Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) was the only female competitor to participate. The throwers' relay race is a fun competition that is exclusively included at the TLU Bulldog Relays.

The TLU Bulldog Relays was a successful warm-up meet for the Crusaders and allowed the Crusaders an opportunity to get an early look at an SCAC competitor (Texas Lutheran) and build much needed team chemistry. The team had several members out due to illness and injury; but should have almost all team members back for the Trinity Open on Saturday.

NOTABLE RESULTS

- The 800 Meters Medley Relay (100-100-200-400m) school record was broken from this same race last year. Achieving the feat included: Katie McIntyre (Sparta, N.J.), Cora Keil (LaCrosse, Wis.), Julia Ringel (Kansas City, Mo.), and Maggie Larson Beaumont, Texas).

- Ringle and Larson joined Hassink and Mary Korth (McKinney, Texas) – who ran cross country in fall – to make their collegiate track and field debut.

- In the field, Grace Conti (Boxford, Mass.) claimed a personal record (PR) in the Javelin Throw by almost three meters with a throw of 20.38.

- Allison Federer (St. Louis, Mo.) participated in her first field event of her career after running last year. Her and Hassink each made their first throws ever in the Discus.

- Due to injuries and illnesses the distance relays (4x8 & 4x16) were dropped after one leg. Dallas athletes were combined into the first leg to provide more competition and then stepped off after the first leg of the event.

QUOTABLE

"It was a great starting point for the first meet and I'm excited to see how I'll improve as we go to clinics and Trinity this weekend." - Grace Conti on performance this past weekend
